I've always had to look at the numbers to see if something was going to work or not. I need to see things in absolute precision that only a number can give us. Of course being this way I have long since figured out my power to weight ratio of my rex and have pretty much compared it to every other car on the road. So I can pretty much run down the street and pick out cars that I can/cannot beat.
But this past week has made me realize that it's not all about the numbers its about soo many other things.

First off I was riding with two of my buddies in my rex when this mustang comes up beside me taunting me. So naturally I let off the gas a little to peek around the back and see if it's a gt or not, and of course it is. So then I think I'm gonna get eatin. I'm not one to back down from a challenge though so we both hit it and swerve around a car in front of us, and to my suprise I'm in front of him. By the top of third he's at my back bumper. So I finally let off and say "Holy ----, I beat a gt."

Second incident happened yesterday when I pulled up to a stoplight and an eclipse with a loud *** muffler pulls up next to me. I tell my buddy "I'll show you how slow those non-turbo eclipses are." Then we both start off slow but then hit the gas in the middle of first. To my suprise he's keeping up. After he finally lets off the gas I hear the scream of a bov. And agian realizing this was a turbo eclipse, how the ---- did I win.

Sorry about the long post, I doubt anyone will even read all of it but I just wanted to point out that numbers don't mean ----, in the real world anything can happen.

Numbers don't always work. I ran a 14.9 in my stock WRX at the track. This guy in a modified 2003 Civic Si ran 16.5. We got out of the track early and decided to go somewhere else to run. This time I had 2 other guys in my car, so yes, I had more weight, but on the street the guy in the Si kept winning by about half a car, but yeah, there's more to it than numbers. Weather, roads, driver, and the cars will not perform the same all the time.

exactly. So many factors. weight, tires, if you start from a start and if not how fast your going to begain with and how far. There are some cars whos 1/4 is impressive but other cars 0-60 is quicker. Also there speedometer max speed, the weather, And most importanly in my opinion is the driver. You can have a fast *** car but if you dont know how to drive it your not going to have any chance of winning against an experiance driver. Oh yeah is your car boosted?

hmmm... interesting post. yeah, my lil brothers EF is kinda like that... at the track its a high 14sec car but on the street he seems to surprise a lot of people including himself.

WTF are you doing swerving around other cars while damn daylight street racing, take it to the track before you or someone else gets killed.

It was a three lane road and there was plenty room. It was also dark and there weren't many cars on the road. Plus there are no good tracks around here, there is one thats not too far but it costs $20 a person and $20 to race and it's only a freagin 1/8th mile.

I wouldn't even call that a win...IN MY BOOK...u were on the street, you don't even know how hard they were pushing their cars...REAL racing is done at the track, it takes REAL skill to chop down the tree and get a better reaction time than the car next to you....stayin' ahead of a car on the STREET is all determined by how dumb you are and who is willing to risk their car, license, hell even your life(and others lives)...by the way, what type of engine is in your car?...your CRX is considerably lighter than both a Mustang and an Eclipse....top end they'd BOTH probaly eat your *** up, and on a REAL TRACK, ***** to the wall in the 1/4 mile,who knows??...

This kid I know runs 14's at the track but uses the excuse, "my car is fast as ---- on the street" This is becuase people can cheat on the street unlike the track. Jumping the gun, getting a running start on a car, racing somebody when the other person doesn't know your racing them and ---- like that.

You can't lie about you time at the track thats why lots of people don't run their cars. I judge cars on 1/4 mile times because that really is the most important thing. HP doesn't mean ---- either.
