ipod touch and iphone users, need info on video convert software...

ok, so what i want to know is, what's the best FREE software out there that will allow me to convert my AVI movies to my new ipod touch?

it seems like the 3 or 4 different ones I have tried are all horse ---- and only try to put spyware or trojans on my PC.

i used to have something that worked well for the iphone i had last year, but i have since deleted that software and have no idea what the name of it was. i dont want to spend the 3 days downloading and installing some radom ---- on my pc only to hate it and delete it moments later.

i have searched the net, only to find other forum posts "advertising" their software only for it to be shitty and infected with virus' just like hotrex.

so seriously, anyone use a good and FREE converter software?

download a couple with a torrent. mininova.org has never failed me and it's clean. You need them to convert to .MOV format, right?
Find a torrent with a lot of seeders/comments/and thanks, that will be 99.99% virus safe.

This one looks good to me.

This is the exact reason I refuse to buy any media players from Microsoft or Apple. Thankfully my Creative Zen-M loves divx videos and I can dump a movie on the player in the matter of minutes.

I got a TV and a laptop for movies and ----. Hate to watch a movie on a tiny 3" screen.

Actually I have a few instances...

On a plane
On a long car ride
In bed
At a boring wedding
At work
At holiday functions
Hotel when the wife is sleeping (on vacation)
Give it to the kid to watch
Give it to the wife to watch (keeps them quit)

IMHO it's much easier to get started, easier to carry, has better battery life.

A media player is a nice little thing to have.

I as well had a Creative Zen vision M and yes it was fairly easy to put files on it. Aside from that, the zen has nothing on an iPod touch. Nothing about the zen is better.

I will admit though it does suck to have to convert vids to work on it. But with the right computer and software a convert should only take 10 mins max with a torrent from axxo (700mb). 1 batch convert ran over night is all you need to do and then do it when you want to add a new file to iTunes.

Really not all that bad for me I guess. I have a decent computer so the convert isn't long at all.

I bought my Zen well before the ITouch came out and at the time it was 100x better than the Ipod Video. The Zen's screen had 2-3x more colors. Battery life was double. Supported nearly every video and audio format you'd ever want. Video output. Worked natively with WMP. Drag and drop with Zen software installed. $50 cheaper. Overall, at the time, the Zen was the player to buy. At this point, I don't have a clue what portable media player is best. I don't think I could ever buy an Ipod because of Itunes alone. I'm sure the Creative Zen X-Fi is a better player than the Itouch simply because Apple products are huge hunks of proprietary software/hardware bullshit.

Do you use XP as your OS? Not much different than using iTunes.

Don't get me wrong because I am no fanboi of apple or iPods but this thing is pretty nice. I have spent a good deal of money on finding the right player and nothing can compare to how well the thing is set up.

I don't like having to use I tunes. But there are alternitives to itunes but I don't find iTunes to cause me any issues and very easy to use.

Did I mention the last three posts were from an iPod touch?
