Do a CD at your local bank, I know at ours the most APR you can get is in a 9 month CD. Very safe bet :6

Re: investments or anything like that???

Could put it in a mutual fund. A S&P 500 index fund is a good bet for growth(young person) Vanguard.com has a popular low-cost s&P500 index fund
http://flagship5.vanguard.com/VGApp/...FundIntExt=INT

500 Index Fund Inv
1year 12.13% 3year 16.56% 5year (9/11) –1.60% 10year 9.41% Since inception12.15%

Other thing is think about a house. It would be worth it to visit a bank, see what kind of a home loan you approve for, see how good/bad your credit is, and get tips on how to improve it. I just bought a house last year.... it's up in value $30-35k in one year...woot woot.

Check out http://www.bankrate.com/brm/rate/hig...416&product=14

Some nice 6month CD's. 4.4-4.6%

...and if you always have a couple thousand in your regular bank account, http://www.emigrantdirect.com/ offers 3.8%, fully accessible at anytime (2-3day transfers to and from your traditional bank).

i have a vanguard IRA account. Seems okay, not making a million dollars on it. But after the first quarter, I think I got 140$ so it ain't too bad for money that's going to my old age. I gotta check on it again, it's been a while. Oh and this is with a 3k investment. I'm gonna drop more into it soon.

If you have consumer debt that you are paying high interest on, pay that off, and then increase your 401K contribution by the amount of the monthly payment you were making on the consumer debt. Get rid of your most costly debt first. If you are paying someone 19% on a credit card, while your 401K is making 4-5%, then you are loosing 14% per month to someone else. If you pay off that debt, and then increase your contribution to your 401K, you immediately gain. Just don't accumulate more consumer deabt, once you have it paid off.

^^Smart man. :y Credit cards are the worst kind of debt, although I don't think he has too much CC debt. He has a truck payment with a strong co-signer so he's probably getting a pretty choice APR on that. He has an ATV payment, but I believe he also has a very strong co-signer for that so the APR should be pretty low.

I'd say put it all in the bank and sit on it. It's a bit harder to come up on large chucnks of money like that so I always like to hold onto them as long as possible. I figure I'm pretty much always going to have a vehicle payment so there is no use paying large sums of money on those. :-\

Re: investments or anything like that???

justins got it. my truck interest is like 5% or something like that and my quad is like 4%. and the credit card is at 0 right now until late next year.(and i dont use more than i can afford) :6 so my interest isnt all that bad. i plan on raising what i pay into my retirement account after the first of the year when i get a raise. i just really dont like having my truck payment but i figure i could put money into a better investment.

Well I'm broke, and only getting deeper into debt with student loans. This ---- better pay off soon.

So I'd say my only big investment now is in human capital.

Paypal accounts have like 4. something percent interest, and they compound monthly, best of all there is no commitment, take your money out as often as you like! :y

You got alot of good advice.

#1 make sure you take care of high interest debt

I'd really suggest going to the bank, making an appointment to get prequalified for a home loan. Find out how much you qualify for. They do a credit check on you, and give you advice on how to improve your credit. If you want to buy a house in a few years, you will be glad you did this now. It only takes like 45mins. Gives you a good idea how much more money you need to save for down payment, and how much more money a year you need to make. It's good to set goals.

IRAs and 401k are retirement deals. Not what you are looking for. Although if your work matches what you put is their 401k, you can't beat that.

Short term investments there are two approaches: growth or safety.

The savings accounts, CDs, short term bonds, are all very safe, but have low returns... 5% or so. Barely keeps up with inflation, doesn't really make you a whole lot of money. But it is definitely going to be there making 5%, and you can get to it anytime. One step better than burying it in the backyard.

Growth would be to invest in stocks or mutual funds. There is the possibility of ALOT higher returns. Investing in Stock kind of requires that you know what you are doing, and there definitely is the risk of losing money. Mutual Funds are pretty much the safest growth investment. The S&P 500 fund invests you in the top 500 largest companies in the US. U.S. companies always make money. Even when something real bad happens, like 9/11, stock market crash, US economy bounces back. There has never been a ten year span when the S&P 500 has lost money. The average 10 year return is 12%. It's averaged 16.5% for last three years.

http://www.moneychimp.com/calculator...calculator.htm
$2400 at 5% for 3years = 2,788.37
$2400 at 16.5% for 3years = 3,936.76

$2400 at 5% for 10years = 3,956.80
$2400 at 12% for 10years = 7,966.70

$2400 at 5% for 20years = 6,523.43
$2400 at 12% for 20years = 26,445.19

$2400 initial investment plus $50 every paycheck($1200 a year)

5% for 3years 6,672.64
16.5% for 3years 8,595.70

5% for 10 years = 19,526.88
12% for 10 years = 31,168.96

5% for 20 years = 47,763.37
12% for 20 years = 126,666.42

Compound interest is crazy

swing trade. is ee people make 20-30% a month. over 3-400 of your lucky. penny stocks are a ballsy business though. make sure you do allot of reading and reasearch. mutual funds are gay bullshit. the returns are weak and when they get hit, they get hit HARD.

Suit yourself. Given the town you live in and knowing that AZ is a right to work state and most jobs don't pay ----, along with the fact that you can't buy the smallest shitbox house for under $200,000 right now, I would suggest getting into the drug business. ;) Might as well make some money off these dumbass tweekers so you can replace the ---- they steal. :8
