Still a solid commodity investment, simply because it doesn't get affected by the bullshit up and downs of the markets. But not a 3-6 month pick

Re: Investing, Investment Experience anyone???***

Yes, the whole goal is an investment that doesn't tye me in for more then 6 months. I am going to buy a house in 6 month's and il use that money towards it.

Re: Investing, Investment Experience anyone???***

if you go through a broker and do a safe investment, you're only going to see maybe a 4-6% return tops, if that. Best thing to do is get an account and trade for yourself, but be prepared to read your ass into oblivion.

Word, if you have any idea or interest at all, do it yourself. Alot of analyst's are still saying uranium is going to go for another ride this year, so small cap uranium mining and production companies are worth a look, still a lot of risk involved as with most small caps, but i'm young so i go for big risk/big reward kinda ----. Pick up a book like understanding wall street or something similar(i'm sure amazon has a million other related titles) and start studying. The better you understand what you are doing, the better your chances, but remember at the end of the day it's still a craps shoot, but you can eliminate a lot of the risk with knowledge and research.

Re: Investing, Investment Experience anyone???***

I honestly think for short term investing you need to put YOUR brains to work and not hand your money over to a bank and get a couple hundred bucks profit after 6 months of waiting. :3

You know how to work on cars? Buy someones car they can't afford to fix for dirt cheap. Fix it for dirt cheap, sell for a profit. Lather rinse repeat. You will have to get your hands dirty, but you will make way more money in the end. :-\ My old roommate made a ------- killing buying cars for dirt cheap off Ebay and selling them locally for way more than he paid. One time his boss flew him to Vegas, he bought a ~98 S10 for like $2800, drove it back here and sold it to some dude for $5000 cash. A ------- $2200 profit just for shaking a few hands. :6

Yeah she said for the last like 2 years walmart has been really good at returning money, its a safe bet. Big name companies like sony or microsoft are always winners when investing. Try something along those lines.

big companys that are a safe bet mean safe for long term slow building. I want something somewhat short term to make me some money. I am not trying to get rich off 10,000, that just wont happen. Just want to make money with it while im not spending it.

RotaryGeek 01-07-2008 12:57 PM

Re: Investing, Investment Experience anyone???***

well the best bet then would be a small company that is building quickly i would guess. i haven't talked to my mom in a couple days but she probably could suggest something else for a short term decent return stock to invest in. Or you could invest in another countries dollar and hope it goes up. Cananda is looking pretty good. Trade all your money for canadian money and sit on it for a while. Then cash it in later and have fun.

TurboG 01-07-2008 04:03 PM

Re: Investing, Investment Experience anyone???***

i have my money invest in all canadian companies, Canadian precious metals, gold silver copper ect. banks and investment funds. I have an Italian investor at one of our local investment places. Not sure if you have a money concepts down there or not. But best bet would be to look in the phonebook and go ask people that do this for a living. you sir want high risk for this small duration.

Cliff:

High Risk = Big Money unsafe
Low Risk = Little Money, Safe ( Banks, mutual funds)
Take money to people that do this for a living

the market is way too volatile right now if you're starting out....

But if you must, sharebuilder.com - little less demanding than etrade and what have you. If you had another 90gs i'd pitch you on being an equity partner in one of our deals and you could probably come close to doubling up, before taxes obviously. Goodluck and be careful whatever you do....

Re: Investing, Investment Experience anyone???***

I think since you said you plan to use the money for a home you probably don't want to go high risk like others have said. Home is one of the best investments you can make anyway. I would say something low risk and of course low return. Of course you could stand to make more from the stocks, but I would only do that if you are willing to wait on the home purchase, since stocks could very well take a dump in the next 6 months which would make you wait to recover the 10k.

Eh, it's gonna get worse for the next few months as the dollar declines. But that in turn will drag down China, which will drive down oil, which will raise consumer spending, which will strengthen the market. Or so one hopes

Read lot's. Depending on your risk tolerance look at stock as opposed to bonds. They offer better returns. Your economy is ----, ours isn't much better. Look at China.

You're thinking gas is going to plunge sometime soon?

It's $2.92 here and it was $2.99 for the longest time. It dropped $0.07. :-\

If the dollar falls, china's economy will drop like a rock, then gas will drop because the two largest consumers of oil will be in a recession. It makes sense if you actually think about it. Only issue is that Iran is apparently threatening to let a whole bunch of Euro based oil out onto the market, which will tank the U.S. economy.

I'm a finance major, minor in econ. The only advice i can give is that... generally speaking, 3-6 months doesn't really give you much time value. Now if you had two more zeros at the end of your lump sum it might be more worth while.

If you are looking to get into the money market then look into an index fund... but then again... 3-6 months probably won't net you much especially considering how volatile the future economic indicaters are telling us.

I'd say... if you knew a thing or two about trading options that would be the way to go, but then you probably wouldn't be here asking for advice. With options contracts you can hedge some of the risk out and still make a killing in a short time. Its never to late to learn, pick up a book and start reading.

If you want, pm me and i can shoot you some power point presentations i still have from my financial derivatives class.

also, if you decide to go to a schwabs or the like... be aware that there can be hefty fees involved.

If you can't afford to keep your money tied up for more than a couple of years, just throw it in savings... at least that money will be doing some work rather than burning a hole in your pocket.

good luck!

too bad you didnt go in for the quick kill on the countrywide stocks.

went from 8 to 20 then back to 18.35 a share. Stock ticker CFC PA

even the other countrywide stock went from 5.12 to 8.91 in one day and closed at 7.75. stock name CFC

never gonna happen again like that. >:(

do not give it to anyone who is paid interest on your investment

second best short term bet is a guaranteed income certificate, low return, but ass a return

BEST BET : use your money and your knowledge (as suggested-fix and flip a car) to your benefit

Use it as a deposit for property thats always the sensible bet. If you have a house/mortgage already then buy a house for the kids or a holiday home to rent out ;D
