Wasn't trying to make you feel like an idiot, was just showing your IP address could be a bad thing to give out, and you shouldn't be so quick to give it out thinking nothing could happen.

I personally wouldn't do anything with the info. But I could call your home, go to your home, or a number of other things if I was a slightly bigger -------.

Don't worry though, MOST people aren't able to get the info. Just letting you know some can :P

lol subseven. i was doing that when the first version came out.
using joiner programs to embed into jpeg files etc.
flipping screens upside down, printing ---- on there computer, watching them on their webcam. all sorts of sick twisted ----.

i had it set up though so when it got installed then it was automatically send me there IP address and port that was open via icq.
that was sweet.

now, besides getting that i'm using comcast, and that i'm in chicago, i have NO clue how you got that OTHER information...
closest i got to my location was from http://www.auditmypc.com/anonymous-surfing.asp
and basically i THOUGHT the only data that was available would be listed here:
http://www.arin.net/whois/
i'm sure you had to reference my IP against something else...

also, although not SUPER-secure by any means, (for reasons i'm NOT going to go into), i dont think you got that off any open/forwarded ports on my local computers, i'm truely baffled.

so i ran NmapW against my own IP (little redundant i guess)
and i only have a handfull of ports open:
80 for my HTTP server
3306 mysql server
and another one i'm not gonna mention, cause its probably not safe to have forwarded
that and 135, 139... i really have no clue how the ---- you found out my (dads) name, address but kudos i guess.

you should go down to your police station and tell them someone is trying to scam you and see if they have some sort of online devision.
around here i read in the newspaper about people going to the cops about this sort of stuff.

haha, Buk throwing my own words back. Must have gotten the talkie talkie shipment.

From what it looks like, these people have convinced a court that they should be able to track down whoever they've been wronged by. They had the court hit up the craigslist rep for IP numbers. I don't think IP numbers are something I need to know about if they want them, but now they're trying to turn those IP numbers into names and addresses, which is where my internet provider comes in, and that's how it all came about.

I think I might call thier lawyers office today and convince them that John Doe didn't do anything, and has no money for them to gain anyhow.
