Intercooler welding
Hey guys. I'm trying to do some work with a couple old intercoolers. I can't get them to weld decent no matter what I try. I washed em down with soap and water first.. then hit it with a stainless brush.. Then wiped it down with alcohol. Instead of making a puddle it gets kinda crusty then bubbles up and melts away. I have some new aluminum here and I can get a great bead on that. Can't get the two to weld together though.
Those of you who have modified your intercoolers do you have any suggestions? This stuff looks like absolute ----.. I won't put it on the car if I can't get it any better looking. |

Re:Intercooler welding
I have been looking for some classes. I can't find anything like that. I found one the taught just TIG but it was 8 hrs a day for a week and cost $1600. I don't wanna use a weeks vacation to take a tig class. Plus I don't have that kind of money.

Re:Intercooler welding
I have a book and I weld pretty decent. the only time I have had any problems was with this old intercooler. new aluminum welds fine. I have it welding decent now.. I changed some things with my setup and its working alot better. I was hoping that someone on here had some experience with old intercoolers and could throw a couple hints myway.
