Re: installing new harddrive error???
I'm guessing some PCI bus driver problem, the SATA controller on your motherboard is likely driven by the PCI bus and is completely fucked.
Welcome to the early SATA stuff, both computers I configured with SATA were non-standard as hell and everything was flaky or didn't work until I flashed the BIOS.
Best thing for you to do is google your motherboard and SATA, or the error, and see what shurfs up. Chances are you aren't the only one having this problem.

Re: installing new harddrive error???
also, I should have added this. I was able to install a copy of win98 SE. maybe I could upgrade from there. also
I tryed to install xp on a different HD that's not the sata and I got the same message. I think It might just be my xp disc, but it work fine one my other 900mhz cpu recently.
I'll search it.
