inside: minor carnage of my wonderful b18a.

finally took the block apart, and checked the pistons out. no real damage visible to the sleeves aside from scuffing.

so to recap:
250,000+km, 8psi, barely intercooled, 89 pump gas, 12.5-13afr.

enjoy.

still, the strange thing is that only one cylinder lost all compression. the rest were all fine. (180-180-0-178 or something like that)

Yeah thats a wierd one. You must have been getting some smoke or blowby.

probably lots of smoke... I think I had a headgasket issue too, even though it looked fine. lots of white smoke, but only occasionally.

blowby was extreme out of the valve cover..

don't know if I was smoking hard or anything... I'll get a picture of the downpipe so you'll know what I'm talking about.

Re: inside: minor carnage of my wonderful b18a.

k well I can't find the downpipe right now, so I will describe it.
exhaust housing was on driver's side, so the downpipe came off of the housing, went straight down, and was ovaled to fit between the block and the crossmember. it terminated almost at the bottom of the crossmember.

it had gravel and scrape marks, so I'm guessing I bottomed out on it a couple of times.

At least it was only the ring lands that gave way, and you didn't shoot a rod through the block and ruin the whole block. Plus only a bit of scuffing is nothing a minor hone job won't fix ;D. Next time get it "fully" intercooled, and a nice street tune, and at 8psi it should rip. 8)
