Input on mandrel bent group buy

Decided to start a new post for this one. I need to get some imput from you guys on what you want in the mandrel group buy, 2" or 2 1/2", steel or stainless, do you want hose with that or are you going to get your own, silicone or nitril, clamps? Jeff what do you think, you have done enough turbo setups to know what is needed. Give me your input and I will give everyone a price and go from there.

Re:Input on mandrel bent group buy

From my view i think you should have it for the 2.5'' pipe because thats what your FMIC's are and i would like it to be the same. Whats the price difference to upgrade to stainless? Would the mild steel rust? I think you should include silicon hose and clamps so it can be a whole DIY kit. Just my $0.02. Also i have in the past bought cheap hose clamps that rust or break would these ones be stainless of plated? Sorry i asked more questions then i input but i am interested in this group by. Thanks.

Re:Input on mandrel bent group buy

Silicone is pretty and tough but nitril hose is just as tough but cheaper. The same goes for the stainless mandrels just as good as steel but they cost more. The hose clamps would be the high pressure stainless units for sure, no sense cheaping out there. You would have to paint the steel so it wouldn't rust. The point is I need to know what people want good looks or cheap price? The quality will be the same on both just a difference in price.

Re:Input on mandrel bent group buy

My vote is for inexpensive quality. im not worried about the shinyness of my charge pipes. the polish factor on my engine isnt going to get me more -----. thats my opinion.

you could just assemble a kit for both types... if it were cost benificial that is.

im inthe same boat as you
im cool with mild steel. i can sand and paint it my self right?
my question is what is the price going to be?

i vote mild steel
2''-2 1/4'' diameter
and silicone (black or blue)

Me too depending on price, I would buy it.

Re:Input on mandrel bent group buy

Well I got a custom intercooler and no piping so yeah I would be interested. I vote for 2.5" because it will work with customcoach or tyrus intercoolers and I know a lot of people on this forum have them. I also vote for cheap quality.

Re:Input on mandrel bent group buy

Yes indeed. I have 600 lbs :o of mandrel piping arriving first thing Monday morning, so we'll be ready to rock and roll. I'm working on finishing up an FMIC kit for the 3000GT crowd this weekend (I'm taking a breather right now and back at it!) so I can get the guy's donor car back to him. I'll try to get all the info on the group buy up within the next couple of days.

Thanks for the input.

Re:Input on mandrel bent group buy

Okay - how many 90's, 45's, 180's and couplers would be preferable - obviously, there will be different needs for different cars, so I'll have to do something general but hopefully will work for most makes.

I'm thinking two of each in 2.5", mild steel and six couplers with solid stainless high torque clamps for around $115.00 shipped.

Thoughts?

Re:Input on mandrel bent group buy

115 sounds like a pretty fair price imo. 2.5 prefferably. could you make a kit for no i/c? (water injection). just so you know, I'm not going to be able to buy this anytime soon, just giving my input.

Re:Input on mandrel bent group buy

I want to paint my piping black. :P I guess as long as it was durable, it wouldn't really matter what material you use. I think alot of people would go for the price on that kind of ----. I also think 2" piping would be fine. The only thing with 2.5" openings is the intercooler? I don't think you would see any difference with 2". Hey, the pressure might even build faster. :-\

Im not ready for piping yet, I just felt customcoach was looking for more opinions.

Re:Input on mandrel bent group buy

do a gb on the damn nitrile couplers

Dr.Boost 09-07-2003 12:39 PM

Re:Input on mandrel bent group buy

I think $115 shipped is a smokin' deal. Those couplers are expensive and mandrels are pretty pricey also. You figure shipping on average will cost $15 so that would be $100 for enough mandrel bends and couplers to plumb an entire setup. I'd like to find someone that could get a better deal. I hope you're still around when I start my next setup customcoach.

Re:Input on mandrel bent group buy

I'm interested. I was thinking 2.25 but 2.5 would work fine. How about working a deal with a reducer coupler to go from the charge piping to the throttle body.....or is 2.5 the right size already? Anyway, I hope this works out because I'm ready to buy and that's a killer deal!

Dr.Boost 09-07-2003 02:25 PM

Re:Input on mandrel bent group buy

2 1/2" will work for most stock throttle bodys.

Re:Input on mandrel bent group buy

Well I dunno how much all that would cost if I went out and bought it, but if everybody else thinks it's a good deal I am in.

Re:Input on mandrel bent group buy

yeh that sounds coo to mee
i guess i'll get reducers somewhere else
ima need a 2.5 to a 2.25 reducer
i'd rather have 2.25 because of my intercooler
but majority look like it gonna be 2.5
