Importing Canadian Car

I'm trying to purchase a Dodge from Canada, and we have been gathering the paperwork. We reached a road block when dodge told him that they will not give him the papers stating the car is EPA meets US standards. They will only give it to an authorised importer they said. Has anyone on here ever imported a car from Canada? I know there's some Canadian guys on here, so wondering if anyone has anything to add on what else we can do, besides pay an importer $600 to import it for us. Maybe someone who's done this before.

Get out your wallet and bend over. What made this dodge from Canada better then a dodge from the US eh?

Re: Importing Canadian Car

Nothing makes this car BETTER then the US version. It's simply the price. It's hard to find these for a decent price, and someone in Canada is selling it for a decent price. That's it. If I could find the same car in the US, for the same price, I'd get it. But this ones in Canada. I found out everything I need to import it. We have everything we need now, except for this one EPA sheet from Dodge. They will not give it to us. So has anyone else ever done this that can tell me how they got the EPA form?

Just toss some plates on it and drive it across.

Just drive it over, they won't ask questions. Then figure out the rest later on when you have time/money.

I spoke with a local customs guy that works at MSP airport. He told me all I need to do is have the title, have the form i already have, and I should be good. Looks like I should be picking up the junkyard project car maybe next week!

Do you need a visa to cross? Pre 9/11 you didn't but I'm not sure if that ever changed.

Re: Importing Canadian Car

No. You don't need a VISA, nor a Passport. Just proof of citizenship (IE drivers license, birth cert, etc)

I crossed the border yesterday (from Canada to the US), no passport

Re: Importing Canadian Car

You do not need a passport. I just talked with the customs agents on the Detroit border. You don't need it.

I'm no longer pursuing this car. It's too much of a headache. Instead I found one in the US, non running for $675. Just gotta get out there with a dolley and bring her home!
