Default I'm officially paranoid. PIC

Ok, well my coolant system has been giving me nightmares lately, mostly because my upper and lower coolant lines on the turbo have bursted in the past month, leaving me to refill the system.

The first time I made the mistake of not bleeding the system correctly. After that no problems.

Then the second line broke, and I bled the ---- out of the system and all is well, BUT... I see some SLIGHT fluxuation:

I know this seems minimal but with the problems I had before I'm paranoid about this. Keep in mind, here in Pennsylvania, the temps are below freezing so I'm wondering that once the car reaches normal op. temp (Notch 1) and the thermostat opens, the rush of colder coolant brings it back down to notch 2? The gauge goes back up to normal op temp within minutes of driving after it sees that first decrease.

Is this just the thermostat doing its job and letting in colder coolant?

try running without coolant lines to the turbo and see what happens

Yeah that's what I do to bleed the system. The only problem is because of how cold it is, it takes my car 15-20 minutes to reach normal op temp just at idle so that method can be a bitch. However, I'm fairly confident that there aren't any bubbles in the system anymore.

are you serious? maybee cus its soo cold, it lowers the temp too much. dont be retarted. just drive it. when it moves soo drastickly within an alloted time fram, thats when you become paranoid.

Yeah the reason for me being so wierd about this is due to the problems I had before with air pockets and such. A lot of people tell me to take the coolant lines out of the turbo but other than the hoses being bad quality and bursting after a new turbo install, I've driven 15,000 miles turbo'd with perfectly fine coolant lines.

Stock gauges are notoriously inacurate. They are also designed to be slow moving, If your oil pressure guage moved as much as you oil pressure was actually changing, you'd think something is wrong.

You gas gauge also has some 'dumb driver' design features. a gas guage is not linear. half a tank isn't actually half a tank, its closer to 3/4s of a tank, the last half of the guage is closer to 1/4 of a tank. It's designed like that cause it fools people into thinking their cars take longer to burn up all their gas. Less new cars come back with people complaining, and everybody is happy.

Your temp guage moving one tick is probly just some kind of electrical fluxation in the system (perhaps the fan turning on and off, etc) The thermostat opening and closing would move the guage alot more then one tick.

My stock water temp guage fluxuates so much, its crazy.

Ok thanks for the info Spenser. I just let my car idle for about 45 minutes or so and it still never reached full op temp, but the cap was off the whole time so hopefully any traces of air pockets are totally gone. I'll test it out tonight.

I can let my car idle for days and it will never reach operating temperature, and it's fairly warm here right now.
