and i wanna know what is some of the best ones to take. im doing them online at home because my work schedule doesnt really allow for school. i already plan on taking lenux and a couple i.t. courses just to better myself. not really for a career choice but for peice of mind that im not the dumbest with computers anymore. and im getting a laptop but i dont know about a good one. i have heard that laptops are not really upgradable other than ram and they tend to outdated themselves faster than pc's do. the computer will end up having at least one or two games on it like wc3 or rollercoaster tycoon or ---- like that so something fast enough to enjoy.

someone tell me about some good laptops. im looking at an hp pavilion dvd6645us, hp 6605us, sony vaio vgn-fz140e/b, and a vaio vgn-nr160e/s. any body have some comments on these?

they all suck and they're not worth buying. If you're willing to spend that much yuo can pick up a serious ASUS.

ASUS is one of the main board manufacturing companies and typically have the best rep. If you're buying from dell, hp, sony, toshiba, anything you find at a box store, you're paying for repackaged ASUS, VIA, Acer, MSI, gear. Usually the box store laptops have shittier components and don't fare to well after awhile. If you want to learn linux, ASUS laptops are more compatible as they don't use ching chong meow chipsets and controllers like every other company does with VIA or Broadcom.

well im trying really hard to stay under 1k. i want to go with a mc but there a little pricey and i do want to have some games on it, so i dont think thats gunna be an option

Theirs like 8 or 9 under 1k dollars. These are far better than any mac you'll pull.

I've never seen a laptop that was worth a ---- after about a year of hard use. Avoid getting one if you can, and if you can't just don't buy anything from a "name" brand.

As far as the classes go it sounds like you need to go back to high school and take one of their courses. My guess is that an online course won't do you a bit of good unless you're really good at learning things by yourself on a computer. If that's the case just search around for a good forum to read. I prefer www.hardocp.com.

I will never buy another laptop. When things break, you fork over $$$. I've had my hdd go out and my dvd burner has gone out. It no longer reads cd-r's as discs, so no more burning cd's. This is all in 2 years. When ---- breaks in a desktop the components are half the price, and a lot of times things are repairable. Price vs performance also goes to desktops. Laptops ftl, I'd love to build a new desktop though.

x2 and acer just bought Gateway and emachine so there not to bad. I just set one up not too long ago and I was impressed, acer has come a long way. But in all reality if you don't really need to take the lappy anywhere you will get a better value with a desktop. lappys are a bitch to upgrade and in most cases more expensive to repair/upgrade than desktops.

Not saying lappy ain't a good choice but if you don't REALLY need one you might be happier with a desktop, especially if you want to start tinkering and mod'ing it out.
