If You Had $600, What would be your boost setup?????

Hello fellow boost heads... I just bought my first car a couple months ago.
It is a Phantom Grey Pearl 95 Hatch.
I got it for 1000 cash with clean body and interior. ;D
It is a single cam non vtec w/ 78,xxx,xxx original miles (bought from 12th grade art teacher) :y
I have already bought 4 new tires, black HX wheels w/ polished lip
Ground control coilovers :-[(plan to get some Omni's, not in a big hurry though)
Full KENWOOD system O0
EP3 seats (found them in a totaled EP3 on the side of the road!) ;D ;D ;)
SiR lip (OEM)
and mud flaps!!!! (JDM yo!) :6

So Far, I have 550- 600 dollars to spend, I've looking here and HT for about 4 hrs a day at school to try to think of a setup.
What would youy guys do for this price range? Remember its a DAILY DRIVER + Im in college.

So far Ive thought of this:
14b DSM Turbo (mabey something else T3/ T4?)
DSM blue tops
CCM Intercooler
Stealth Mode lines
Turbo excess BOV (got it for the rear EP3 seats)
stainless steel Charge pipes
All the gaskets and adapters
Black silicon couplers w/ T-Clamps
HF mani w/ heat tape
and some type of management (this is the hardest part no matter how much I read)

PLEASE DONT FLAME!!!!!!!!!!!! I just need some thoughts on what would be the best combo of parts.
Thanks in Advance, Hope to get some sick ideas off my fellow HMT'ers.

Feel free to post pics of your setup, or links to good sights (others than this sites sponsors)

Re: If You Had $600, What would be your boost setup?????

So far Ive thought of this:
14b DSM Turbo (mabey something else T3/ T4?) $?? $529 for T3/T04(new) @ boosted-hybrid.com
DSM blue tops $40 - 60
CCM Intercooler $100 - 160
Stealth Mode lines $85
Turbo excess BOV (got it for the rear EP3 seats) $Free
stainless steel Charge pipes $??
All the gaskets and adapters $?? OEM Gasket
Black silicon couplers w/ T-Clamps ??
HF mani w/ heat tape $160-230
and some type of management (this is the hardest part no matter how much I read) $??
It will take a bit more than $600 ish to meet that setup. Do some research and save your money, then get something you might find that's better. Also, it allows more deals/group buys to come your way so you get better deals.

Re: If You Had $600, What would be your boost setup?????

easy.

T25, adapter plate, cc intercooler (or other junkyard intercooler, but cc is pimp O0), dsm 450's, your bov, aluminized steel piping, couplers (either home depot, maybe silicon/tbolt if you have some extra cash), uberdata. Get a dp flange and make a dp using some aluminized steel and you should be all set to go.

Now, this could be done even cheaper.. you just gotta look around the junkyards.

Re: If You Had $600, What would be your boost setup?????

Thanks for all the quick replies, Im getting ideas.
I was planning to buy the pieces one by one for the cheapest price I could find.
EX. I see 14b's for like 40-60 bucks sometimes so I could just spend like 2-3 months completing the kit, It should be able to be done for around 550 I think just from adding up prices Ive seen in the for sale forums.

No, Im not from New Orleans, I just moved to Oklahoma about 2-3 months ago from the Maryland area.

Keep'em coming!!!!!!!!! ;D

Re: If You Had $600, What would be your boost setup?????

Yeah. You're on the right track.

Don't get fancy with stuff though. No ss pipe, no heat wrap on the manifold. That stuff only adds to the expense and it's not 100% necessary.

Salad Fingers 10-19-2005 04:48 PM

Re: If You Had $600, What would be your boost setup?????

Well as far as the SS pipes, I thought it would last longer and keep rust away, but then I relized that I own a garage :6!!!!! Thanks, keep'em comin!!!!

Re: If You Had $600, What would be your boost setup?????

By the way, what do guys think of my hatch, Im real proud of what Ive done so far. Keep in mind I got four brand new tires (plastic wraped &stickered) w/ my HX wheels for 250. then I stripped, painted, and polished the lip. I got mint EP3 floormats, and shift knob for free. The SiR lip was free ( had minor damage, but I saved it). Got my coilvers off my boys totaled integra for 60 bucks (no rust, fresh). Also got the four KENWOOD 6x9's for 50 bucks from his Integra. And lastly my teacher already had the kenwood head!!! So Ive spent 1250, including the car... I think this is the pimpest deal ever!! Its coming along very quickly, I got all this stuff in about 1 week. I just sold ome of my paintball equipment for 600. I plan on ordering vision ambers, alarm, Mugen loop replica exhuast ( saw it on here for 125 shipped, people loved it) VX or EG-6 Cluster AND.........BOOOOOOOOSSSSSTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! O0

Seems like you got the HMT spirit "i want power, dont want to pay for it" :y
If you wait, a good deal will always come along!

Re: If You Had $600, What would be your boost setup?????

read the link on my sig. I had $600 in it. ran awesome. the only thing I would change...would be to go with a T25. a t25 fits. if you go with a t3, and a HF mant, you gotta get a t25 WG or relocate the t3 wg. i would go with the t25 ;)

if you lazy:
T3 .42/.48
SMIC
crush bent autozone pipes
probe BOV
stealthmode oil lines
hf mani (which you probably already have)
bmc race adaptor plate
450's
uberdata

as said before, I would do the same thing but run a t25, only for fater spooling and I wouldtn grind a hole in the block. :-X
also, as someone else said, if you are tight on money and this is your only car I would hold off. once you put the turbo on, its gonna "nickel and dime" you to death.

Salad Fingers 10-19-2005 05:14 PM

Re: If You Had $600, What would be your boost setup?????

What are some "nickle and dime you to death problems" you guys have encountered? Other then the frigg'n insane rate of Gas these days. ???
Also, what are some cheap mods for the motor/ trans, so far I just one a nice little single stage ACT clutch that will grap nicely.

Would it be worth it to pick up a ZC for like 150-250 bucks and mod that while I run the d15? I read what Jeff said about the ZC and how it loves boost. Or should I just save for a b-series?

Yeah i saw that too...
If it really had that many miles on it, it should be in a museum not on the road

Salad Fingers 10-19-2005 05:32 PM

Re: If You Had $600, What would be your boost setup?????

whoops 78,xxx,xxx LOL...... :o You guys knew what I meant.. LOW MILEAGE OWNS. :6

SkunT 10-19-2005 05:40 PM

Re: If You Had $600, What would be your boost setup?????

low mileage doesnt always mean its good. do a compression test and that will tell you if its good. ;)

and for nickel and dimin...its always dumb ----. the head started "floating" so I put ARP's on it. then while I was doing that, I put the new HG on it. home depot couplers clamp ---- up. -so your gonna run into problems there...its always something. trust me. ;)

and the car is comming together awesome. (your car) although, i would keep those ground control coilovers.

as far as boosing the motor...you have multi-point fuel injection right? If not, I would for sure change that ----. If you can get a ZC for $150, I would do it. Then you have a "back-up" motor. its a nice peice of mind.

a clutch, your for sure gonna need that! a stock one wont last long.

Re: If You Had $600, What would be your boost setup?????

My setup:
14b: $110 shipped w/ o2 housing and fittings
hf mani: $15
weir adapter plate: $55
stealthmode oil kit: $70
uberdata: $120
obd2-1 conv harness: $73
dsm 450's and resister box: $45
rx7 fd smic: free
1g dsm bov with all i/c piping: $55
autometer boost gauge: $35
autometer oil press: $27
oil filter sandwich adapter: $20
downpipe w/ flex pipe: $80
and a bunch of misc new heat treated bolts, coolant lines/fitting, lock washers, clamps, etc that probably adds up to $30-40

that's almost $750 all together. and as you can see i got some pretty good deals... I guess I could have left out the sandwich adapter plate, but it makes installing the oil feed line WAY easier. and obviously, since you are obd1 already you wont need the conversion harness. those two things are close to $100. so i guess it's very possible to piece together a DECENT (good management and good oil lines at the least..) kit for $600. Just be patient and wait for good deals. AND DONT SLACK ON MANAGEMENT OR OIL LINES!

Oh, and plan on spending ATLEAST $100-200 MORE on what you think it's going to cost you. And now that I read your first post again, i don't think it's going to be possible with a fmic and charge pipes. have to consider clamps, couplers, custom welding the pipes, etc. and if you buy them pre made, it can cost anywhere from $100-200+

Salad Fingers 10-19-2005 06:03 PM

Re: If You Had $600, What would be your boost setup?????

Ok, cool. Now as far as managment, how does that work? is it plug and play w/ the ECU or what? I might sound dumb but like I said this area gives me the most problems. Are there premade "tunes" for a certain setup you want to run?
Like if I wanted to push 6-8 psi everyday and have boost kick in at like 2000 rpm. would it be possible to have a premade tune for this setup with my motor?

Re: If You Had $600, What would be your boost setup?????

Research project: cheap slut and you'll get an idea of what $600 or less can get you.

Re: If You Had $600, What would be your boost setup?????

That was not nessacary, and if you read the post, you would know that I've done a tone of reasarch every day (4-5 hrs). This post is mixture of what other people would do to help me make my disicion. God Bless You!

Re: If You Had $600, What would be your boost setup?????

stealth has a good point. ;)
and he has the oil lines you want. :y

if you shop for the deals, you can build a nice set-up for cheap. and no, your not done researching. no one is ever done researching. you still dont know anything about fuel management. unless you have someone near you who can tune, you will never be boosted if you dont understand it yourself. fuel management is 95% of the project. you can have all of the nicest parts, new turbo, blingin manifold..but if you dont have the right fuel management, your fucked.

Salad Fingers 10-19-2005 06:41 PM

Re: If You Had $600, What would be your boost setup?????

Yes I know that. I never said I was done researching. Im just asking what would you guys buy with the money....this is getting a little off topic. And yes there are about 4 shops around here that ive looked at, but I still want to know for my self.

tons of research and you ask about management and how it works ::). pgmfi or the engine mangy section here and read yourself sick. Dont forgot tuning equipment like wideband o2/laptop that puts you well above 600 just those 2 alone are over 600 and if you cant weld 600 bucks aint gonna happen. Good luck your gonna need. The truth the set ups on here are not ghetto its just using what you got but the reason it works is most of us are mechanics with skills and have been around Hondas for years

the guy I sold my car to was in the low 14's on street tires, and got different charge pipes made up and I think he got a different BOV as well. kevin would know a little more, but im pretty sure thats what he did.

It was 100% junkyard stuff. not to bad for $600, but fook is right. There was ALOT of room for imporvement.
