idle problem

my 88 Si starts fine, revs fine, warms up in the 2k range, but when fully warmed idles at like the 700 rpm but constantly bogging down almost to stall (sometimes does!) it jumps from 700 down to 200, then to 1100, back to 700 and starts all over.. i think the stall saver is saving it from stalling but why is it stalling in the first place?

thanks for all your future help ;)

Re:idle problem

When was the last time you gave your car a tune up? plugs/cap/rotor/fuel filter etc?

Also clean out the throttle body, carbon build up can get stuck around the throttle plate and in extreme cases can make the idle fluctuate.

If you still cannot get it fixed, just bump the idle up a bit with the idle/air screw on top of the t-body. OR advance your timing, this will bring the rpms up a bit.

Re:idle problem

My car used to do that after I added a FPR and bumoed up the pressure to like 40 psi, after playing with that screw on the trottle body it was fixed.

Re:idle problem

I had my car painted winter 2001 by my uncle. I guess he didnt ground his mig welder right and he fried my Crane HI-6 box :( When I picked up the car i couldnt rev it past 3000rpm!!! I had to drive 500km home in 5th at 3k! (95km/hr! max speed!) I took it to honda and they had to replace the hole ignition system, dist assem, cap, rotor wires and plugs, ever since then its been idling like that. They didnt do a TB cleaning or clean the IAC area, I'l try those out when my battery charges ;) (stored winters, dont want to ruin my electron blue pearl paint)

thanks guys!

Re:idle problem

one more thing.. my flywheel is light, i mean REALLY light, like 6-8lbs shaved off, would that be causing the problem?
