i spun a rod bearing

So i spun a rod bearing and i was wondering what the process of fixing this is. i think im going to throw some oversized rods in. do i have to take the crankshaft to a machineshop and have them check for ware and whatever. buy some new berrings and be on my way or what :-\

you can just replace the bearings/seals and throw that bitch back together.. but I would always suggest having a machine shop check your ---- out.. worth the money, I have finally found a kick ass machine shop in arkansas, I will bring as much business I can to them - too bad the hardcore engine ---- has been slow for me for a little while.

I hope you like to waist your time :-\ theirs no way you can just throw new bearings back in a think it will work, when bearing's spin they damage the surface on the crank and rods. Just buy a new crank and get your rods re-sized.

how did you spin it? old tired motor? no oil? low oil?

Re:i spun a rod bearing

you could micropolish the crank and size the bearings accordingly.

Re:i spun a rod bearing

i think i spun it by getting little to close to redline to many times ::)

Not that I've ever done this but you can just hand polish the scratches out, put in new bearings to sell the car. They'll usually last about 5 to 10,000 miles before they start making noise. ;)

I think Jeff would cry if I described how I put together my GSR before I sold it.. ;D

Is it ok to undertorque rod bolts becuase you used NAPA rod bearings that were completely off spec? ;D

Also, is it ok to rebuild a motor while there's still a chunk of piston melted to the wall and after 10 minutes of honing the ---- out of it just say ---- it and pretend its not there. :P

I can go on...

Re:i spun a rod bearing

holy ---- thats some funny ----... go on

Reddy 08-08-2004 05:41 PM

Re:i spun a rod bearing

Since I only fucked up one cylinder I took one used piston from my buddy's GSR and just put that in. Since the walls were slightly egged it was a tight fit and that cylinder has about 4 psi higher compression than the others so its all good.

Head gasket was reused of couse

I only had LS rings so I used them so there was no need to file any ringgaps.

Suprisingly the car is still running strong to this day.

Re:i spun a rod bearing

When i sold my rx7 it had a blown coolant seal(like a head gasket) i just threw 4 bottles of that block weld ---- in it and sold it, said it needed a tune up
