I've only met one guy who cared to take his D16 to the dyno. Amazingly, it still runs. :1

I have a half dozen B-boys wanting dyno time, but they are mostly flakes or you have to roll them out of bed to play with their car. Ridiculous, really, but that's car ppl.

Hahah, just reading the thread title, and I knew JD's timing advice would be inside. What a nice guy.....

Does'nt a y8 head give you like 2hp over a z6 head? Wow that would really be worth the $ and 4 hours of labor ::)

Z6 heads flow more cfm @ higher lifts than Y8's. But y8's have other characteristics that make them good in their own right.

Saying that swapping a y8 head for a z6 head only results in 2hp, since the factory hp ratings of these motors reflect such a change, is re-damn-diculous.

However, going from a z6->y8 head(with a different rocker/cam setup ;) ) could give a significant gain in mileage(I've seen 5-6mpg in highway and city) and a "hp" increase due to the mild compression increase... Porting the 4 crappy intake bowls only helps...

Re: I need a Y8 head

I guess you're right. High 14sec N/A d15 with 45mpg mixed driving w/ o2 enabled is sorta crappy anyway... I know, I've got lots of excuses in there, but I think it's impressive for what it is. Just like the stock bottom turbo'd crx's out there running 12.7's @ 106mph. It's fast for what it is. Everything is relative.

Also, I wanted to mention that less spark advance, with the same burn, leads to more power. People always think this is a bad aspect of the y8 heads, but in actuality, it means the mixture burns faster, and needs less timing advance. This means less force is exerted before tdc, which is good.

Re: I need a Y8 head

No, it doesn't mean much of anything.

Burn happens so quickly, and in such a manner, that unless timing is grossly out of wack there is no appreciable pressure built at or before TDC. There is no situation here where ignition timing is varied and burn held constant. All the Y8 head design does is promote initial ------ of burn via quench. As such, your insinuation of Y8 > Z6 is invalid; aside from what timing they both like for a given airmass, they might as well be twins and dress up like each other.

Can you stop turning a silly thread based on misinformation into a pseudo tech debate based on the finer points of nothing? Thanks.

PS - 12.7@106 is a reflection on the suspension, 200-220 whp on a stock engine is nothing to write home about.
