I need some pics and ideas...for aftermarket radiator in ED/EF chassis
I just got my new radiator today, all aluminum bar and plate style with a 2.5" core. When I first talked to the guy I ordered it from he said there would be no issues fitting it in my 89 hatch if I've already fitted a stock eg 1/2 rad in there. Sounded good to me, so I ordered it...then wondered why shipping was so much. Found out why today...bitch has to way close to 30 pounds! Anyway, I went to mount it in to see how bad it would fit, and you guessed it...hood doesn't close anymore. I already trimmed out a good section of under-hood support to get the stock eg rad to fit in there, but this one sits at least a good 1/2" to 3/4" taller than the eg unit, maybe more. I need some pics or ideas for how you guys mounted your aftermarket 1/2 rad's in your 88-91 chassis, because I'm pretty much running out of ideas. :-\
I'll get some pics of it tomorrow morning. ;) |

How did you mount the bottom? Can you drop it down lower?

2 Attachment(s)
I got 2 quick pics of the radiator before the batteries in my camera died...
Attachment 27467 2.5" thickness on the core, bar and plate style...so I doubt taking it to a rad shop and having them cut it down is going to even work or be an option. Attachment 27468 This is the lowest I can get it to sit. It looks like I might be able to trim the hood again and get it to close, I'll find out in a little while. :-\ |

Thats a shitty design, cap raised up and then prtruding an inch
Streetimports cooler has the a low pro style cap and its on the lowerred side of the rad Just switch em man, no use ghettoizing something when you can sell that for just as much money ast eh new unit costs |

Sell it on HT, make a profit
Why would it be so heavy though? Mine is literally probably 2.5-3.5lbs |

Mine is literally probably 2.5-3.5lbs But at least I got it to fit now...took a big hammer to where the lower hose sits on the crossmember and banged it in a little...was just enough for the extra bit of room I needed. An SiR style hood would definately help out for clearance room though. Are there any companies (besides password jdm and their $700 carbon fiber version :l ) that make the SiR style raised hood to match the usdm headlights? |
Re: I need some pics and ideas...for aftermarket radiator in ED/EF chassis
Company on ebay makes them, carbonceation or something, but the coating aparently doesnt hold up to well in the son
Guy on HT called CaronAll (I think) makes replaces VIS's but there still spendy Why change the hood, when you can spend $150 and get a rad that fits right the first time? http://streetimports.com/product_details.asp?id=366 http://streetimports.com/product_details.asp?id=366 I got mine for $90 on ebay +30 shipping fomr them, but they dont have any listed right now |

You can notch the factory xmember (I have one from a 91 EF, if you are int. PM me), or just get a set of traction bars.

I just welded 2 flat bar pieces to the bottom of the factory crossmember. Mine sat LOW.

Re: I need some pics and ideas...for aftermarket radiator in ED/EF chassis
How the hell did you get yours to sit that low? ??? Usually the bottom hose hits the crossmember in that little notch area and limits how far down you can get it.
