slugbalt 07 04-29-2009 03:36 PM

thx for all the ideas

Scott-EP 04-29-2009 05:55 PM

yea, the cobalts arent the greatest cars. i know a guy with one that has had nothing but problems with his.

since you are asking on a site with mostly honda owners i am going to recommend a civic.

if you want to make it faster though, i would keep the cobalt as a daily driver and play with the civic on the side. daily driving your project sucks when it needs a few days of downtime to get something done on it and you dont have something else to drive to work.

^ X2 been there done that. Get a civic to wrench on and build up. But keep the cobalt to daily drive.
Or buy 2 civics, one for day to day and one to build.

kev77 04-30-2009 02:18 PM

civic always

bubbies 05-01-2009 04:30 PM

cobalt is dutch for '' timebomb''

slow-ef9 05-02-2009 10:42 AM

if u get a civic. get a 88-91 crx si or hx,92-95 hb cx. if u can find one. yes civic is a good starter. i got two. integra is a good car.

If you want a good car that would be easy to makee a best go with a dsm, preferably awd, off the stock block it would not be hard to go into the 11's, with not much cash into it each other. And to who ever says they are unreliable, they are as reliable as you want to make them, do them right you will have no problems, hack it and youll have problems. If it has a 6 bolt, 92.5-90 it could do 450awhp with no internal mods, good tune it will do 550 whp with out much problem.

who ever says dsms are reliable are in denial

i think ur crzay bt w/e

if you are going to go with a dsm go with a 420a simple as hell get:
a cast mani from ebay
fmu 12:1
fuel pump
fuel cut defender or missing link
turbo not more than 8 psi

that will RELIABLY give u a real good car to learn the ways of the turbo, while keeping $$ in your pocket and giving you time to choose what your next project is going to be

or say ---- dsm's and get a real car :P

RyAn007 05-02-2009 06:59 PM

Hahah well, to be legitimate about it they are unreliable for most because they have no idea what they are doing and mess everything up and turn it into a ---- storm of problems. Never buy a 420a, its an awful platform, and it will only do a low 200 whp at most on stock block and its going to take near triple the amount of money it would on a awd dsm to make it nearly as fast. You can argue with the capabilities of a 6bolt, not to hate but its a little better for the average tuner who wants a cheaper fast car, and what i think martirw is trying to point out to you is a turbo dsm is superior to a "real car" and that maybe you should tone it down for your first car ;). But really, if you do not hack and do everything right the dsm wont have problems, it will be the same as any other modified car, a needy vehicle. I guess to each their own, i like dsm's , others like other cars, but overall it is what you want and not what anybody else wants, do some research and get a good idea of what each car is about and its capabilities and importantly how much it will cost to buy parts to modify it, that is if you cannot fab them up yourself.

Yea, definetly go this route. You are starting out on a boosted platform, plus the options are unlimited.

there is a post ----- in every bunch lol. Back to the topic at hand. I hate to be a conformist but a honda civic especially a 92-95 is a great starter to learn to wrench on. Easy to find parts and hella after market support. Get one with a D16z6 or y8 and boost it then go get plastic surgery to remove the grin from ear to ear you will have after experiencing boost for the first time.

RyAn007 05-14-2009 01:25 PM

WOW, Johnathan Jigga is what nobody wants in a forum, he doesnt contribute and just posts to get his numbers up so he can do work in the porn section, well, seems like he knows nothing and is just horny or something, id say he shouldn't be on forums like this or those posts shouldn't count.

If you can get two cars, go for it.
I would go with a Civic 88-95 are good choices and a another daily driver.
I have a Crx and a 89 Toyota Truck and I really like that I dont have worry about putting parts in my car cause I use my Truck as a hauler and Daily Driver.

snowdrift 05-29-2009 05:46 PM

another good little start car are the late 80's early 90's sentras. those have great potential and are generally cheap. and will run as long as the civic.
My first car was a 90 sentra, and that thing was fun, and waaaay freakin easy to wrench on. I changed a clutch myself without prior experience when i was 17.
If you could find an cheap infinit g20 that would be another car with great turbo potential in it.
