I need a quick fix
 
my gf's car has a bit of a knock, i think its a lifter maybe. But i'm trading her car for another car, how can i get rid of the noise? really heavy oil? anything for a temporary fix

what kid of car? hydrolic lifters can stick and tick, atf works good. If it knocks then get some stp.

BG products MOA oil adative. It fixes lifter noise. If it is something worse(Rods!) try adding 90 weight gear oil untill it shuts up and trade it in quick(old used car lot trick).

I think it's more of a LOUD tick...almost a knock....weird noise

Maybe some like Smoke-B-Gone. It's a really REALLY thick oil additive. Maybe try either lower or higher viscosity oils. Probably higher would do the trick

Find out if it uses hydraulic lifters, if so youre pretty much fucked for repairing the sound, if not, due a valve adjustment.

get a mechanics stethascope and find out exactly where the sound is coming from. if its from the head area its most likely a lifter, if lower block then bearing, its hard to tell sometimes because the sound resonates through the entire engine, so the only way is to pin point it.

but if you said its a tick, it sounds like a lifter to me, the part itself is not worth replacing if its a hydro lifter, since you can get a new head for much cheaper.
