I need computer help very bad.

Ok. I fucked my computer up. I re-installed XP and since i am retarded to the computer language, I didn't know that I wasn't going to be able to get back on the internet. I guess I need ethernet drivers to acess the internet? Ok, how the ---- do I download drivers off the internet if my ------- computer won't access the internet anymore since it doesn't have the appropriate drivers to access the internet? This is gay. I have been arguing with the cable company, motorola, the dick at Staples, and everybody else about this.

I had a friend save a USB driver to a floppy for me, but I can't get it to open with the right file/program. It needs to go online to find the right program to open it with, but obviously I can't go online if I need this stupid driver. What do I need to do?

I have a cable modem and I can use ethernet or USB to oprate it. Also, I am borrowing a friends laptop right now to try to figure this out. Can I get my computer online with this computer since it has the right drivers to use my cable modem? How do I do this if it is possible? Please be specific since I am retarded to the world of computers.

that's really weird that you actually need to go out and download a seperate driver for your device. XP usually has them all. I would (with the laptop that I'm assuming can access the net) go and find the driver, download it and copy it to a floppy, and then install it to your PC. If that's all that you really need, then you should be able to get online.

ok buddy, here you go. ---- what the cable company says, you dont need drivers for the cable modem, you need it for your ethernet card. what you need to do is like the last post says use the laptop to download the driver. have you tried getting online with the laptop? if it works, great... its getting its ip address info automatically by dhcp. in that case, look up you ethernet card in google. if your laptop cannot access the internet, you will need to troubleshoot your connection. click start, run, cmd. type in without quotes "ipconfig /release" hit enter. then type " ipconfig /renew". try to get online now. still no internet? your buddy might have a static ip address configured in his laptop. in that case, click start, and open my computer. on the left pane you should see an icon for my network places. right click it and click properties. then right click local area connection and click properties. click internet protocol tcpip and then click properties. select "obtain an ip address automatically" as well as "obtain dns server info automatically". keep clicking ok until you are out of that screen. you should now be able to get online with the laptop. if you do not know what card you have, open up your case and pull the ethernet card to find out exactly what model it is - MAKE SURE YOU GROUND YOURSELF BY TOUCHING BARE METAL ON YOUR CASE TO DISCHARGE STATIC ELECTRICITY. once you have the card(3com, linksys, netgear, etc.) go to their website and look in the support section. in that section should be a drivers section. search for your model and get the driver FOR YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM-XP. download the driver and put it on floppy. depending on whether or not the driver has an executable, you may need to manually install the driver to your computer. it isn't hard. click start, right click my computer, properties, hardware, device manager. you should see a yellow exclamation next to "network adapter" or something similar. double click that, then click driver. click update driver. it should then start a wizard looking for your driver. point it to the driver on the floppy(should be a sys or inf or similar file extension). by default, everything should be dhcp on your lan connection after it is first set up. if you cant get online from there, your cable company should be able to help you. if theres anything i forgot, i or somebody else can help you if you need it. peace.

if you are missing a driver. go to any search engine and just type in the driver name and find the right driver and download them. That's what i do.
