I Might As Well Introduce Myself and My Car

My name is phil and I am 23, as well as a recent graduate of college, moving into a new place this weekend..

car is a 2002 chevrolet cavalier with the ecotec motor and a custom turbo kit, not home made but I and my roomate have done a lot of work to the car including swapping manifold gasket, turbo to manifold gasket, and changing the charge pipes around and a lot of little things that have helped me learn a decent amount.

right now the car runs about 10 psi and backs off to 8.7 (wg spring, small blue) because of a blown turbo to manifold gasket. Main problem is the bolts holding my turbo on keep backing off, tried loc-tite and a few other things. (any suggestions) after the pics I will post a current mod list. I plan on painting the car all black again, building the motor and throwing a Quiafe lsd in the tranny to go along with my current dss stage 2 axles. well onto the pics

(disclaimer: one of the welds on my charge pipes was cracked and I put the duct tape on there to test to see if it was leaking boost and indeed it is, once we get setting into our new place I will be cutting the charge pipe and putting in a coupler and t-bolt clamps.)

power output is 233 whp and 247 tq

time wise I am sure it is capable of very very low 13's if not high 12's

(assuming that I base my guesses of what cavaliers of simliar power are running, am I in NO way say that I will run that)

haha that car will not go 12s with 233 whp. not with those long ass gears, notchy shifting trannies and overweight everything.

i feel your pain, we built petes cavy. now he wants a honda, he realized his mistake.

Very nice setup. I like the fact its not a Honda. Lower on the theft scale.

Hey ---- happens man, I know that being a newb you gotta "run the gauntlet" or get hazed so they know you can take it...

I could have a turbo honda.. I'd like one, but it'd get stolen in 2 second around here... you'd lock the car turnaround and it'd be gone.. no on screws with a turbo cavalier LOL....

yes it is capable...

the getrag has short gears compared to the isuzu trans, the isuzu trans is junk compared to the getrag, whioch is why you don't think so because the isuzu is notchy and hard and has longer gears, and 2700 lbs isn't overweight...

Jeff Filkins runs a 12.58 at 14 psi
Suncavi, Jasmin (bosnian reason for girl like name lol) runs a 12.4 on 13 psi (slicks and quiafe)
Ryne owner of team Vision motorsports runs a 12.5 on drag radials at 15 psi
Speedracerz Brian ran a 12.7 on 11 psi
DJ (I dont know his real name) ran a 12.7 on 13 psi
Josh solomon - 13.2 @ 114 at 15 psi (severe traction issues)

dj and Jeff were on street tires as well... DJ had severe traction problems

the list goes on... and on.... and on... thats all I can remember off the top of my head....

I know if I hook up and dont have any traction issues and run a great run it could nail a 12.9....

actually all getrag trannies too...

granted thats not a lot, but our cars arent as easy as a honda to get into the 12's, not flamming just stating the obvious ;D

Getrags are sex and there are lots of 3G J's in the 12 second bracket.. a few are in the 11s as well.
Actually just a nice nitrous set-up on a 2.4 5spd with no weight reduction can get you in low 13s.
15 years ago I'm sure nobody though a 1990 CRX could hit 12s but look what they are accomplishing now in those light little shells. Think a little more open-minded.
There is not a HUGE aftermarket to support any of the J-motors.The ecotec is getting really popular to modify because of the GM racing team (in reality any motor with that much funding can push a 1500lb FWD drag car into low 7s) but it is still not nearly what is available to the more popular Honda motors. Give it a little more time and you will start to see a lot more eco-powered cavaliers and sunfires in the 12s. Right now only people that have no life outside of cars (sorry phil) are getting anywhere.
