Re: i just saw on the news...
The "owning X number of ferraris" rule got tossed out the window the first week those pieces of ---- came on sale. What happened was that dealership owners were buying the cars, then turning around and selling them right out for 1.2 mil as apposed to the $660,000 that they actually cost from ferrari.
One of my friends at foregn cars Italia told me there was a problem with the inner valve springs on some of the cars breaking, and coming out with the oil at the first oil change!!!
I cant see paying that much money for a car that will get its *** handed to it by a lightly modded jap car... When you buy a ferrari you pay for a name. Thats all. Who cares what they sound like. Doesnt matter if it doesnt run half the time.

How many of you have actually been for a ride in a ferrari? Or any of the exotic cars you choose to talk ---- about?
My old boss used to rent sports cars from a car club. He had various fast cars and only the ferrari's ever made me say wow! They may be unreliable pieces of ---- that break and cost a fortune to fix and aren't even that fast. But until you've experienced the pure automotive pleasure offered by one (even as a passenger). You really have no grounds to comment. No jap crap supercoupe will ever have that wow factor, certainly not as it rolls off the showroom floor.
That crash didn't look that bad, but the car does look totalled.

Re: i just saw on the news...
i thought enzos run about 11 flat. how could a "lightly modded" jap car come even close to that.
i seriously doubt there are more than 50 civics in the world, race cars or not, that could hang with an enzo around a road course

Re: i just saw on the news...
ouch, i really hope that movie does good for his sake or the charity race will be for his broke ***. i seen a show about the enzo on the national geagraphic channel not to long ago, they were showing how everythign was made and it looks liek alot of time and effort goes into each one. hand stiched leather seats and ---- liek that. not liek an assembly line at a ford plant.
and i really doubt any civic could hang with it on a road course but the drag strip is another story, since they weren't made for the strip.

Re: i just saw on the news...
True story not a bunch of BS - My last boss went to the pebble beach concours to try and buy one after we went public and no one would sell him one! This was in 2005 and he said it was because he had no previous ferrari ownership credentials. Him and his wife pulled in $83.7 million Canadian for the sale of 70% of their company. ($96 million a year in sales at roughly 34% pre tax profit!!!)
After coming back he bought an AMG SL65 instead. Super bad-*** (604hp and 700+ Ft lb torque) and he drives it almost weekly without issues - except when he ran over a piece of cement on the road and ripped a big chunk out of the carbon fibre under body pan - ouch.
Anyway, Forget about the $1.2 million dollar car none of will ever have and check out the FactoryFive GTM. Possibly a car some of us could pull off and also super bad-***. $19,900 for the kit and you have to supply a wrecked c5 or c6 vette to finish (and a porsche 911 transaxel)

And check out this excellent video of it accelerating from the pits and making short work of a 360 modena - "GTM Runs with the Prancing Horse"

Not sure if any of this is a re-post

Re: i just saw on the news...
The problem with exotic cars is that they're all midship. I'm sure midship is cool if you're an ultra bad *** driver but not being able to brake in a turn, gas out mid turn or over correct with out completely losing the car and never getting it back leads me to believe I'd send one into a tree on a country road after I got a little to comfortable with it. awd/rwd/fwd are all gravy. MR is risky unless you're a damn good driver.

I'm sorry to point this out, but you contradicted yourself there a bit.
"They may be unreliable pieces of ---- that break and cost a fortune to fix and aren't even that fast"
then
"pure automotive pleasure"
Yeah, If you take pleasure in towing it to the nearest ferrari dealer then writing cheques for the parts and labour.
As for "No jap crap supercoupe will ever have that wow factor, certainly not as it rolls off the showroom floor"
Take a Turbo Supra or Skyline R34 and you'll have an even greater WOW factor.
Personally. If I was out to buy a super car I would buy either a Porsche 997 AWD Turbo, Carrera GT, Pagani Zonda, McLaren F1 or an Old XJ220
