Re:I hate red lights, do you?

its just a powerful magnent. a really ------- powerful one. people put magnents on motorcycles so they can set off signals.

put a powerful magnent on your car, it will do the same dam thing.

do what? lol. the magnet would have to be six hundred bajillion million times bigger.

I thought it was an infrared strobe that mimics a strobe on a police/ambulence ???

kain 10-13-2004 04:21 PM

Re:I hate red lights, do you?

it is. thats why you can use an universal remote. its cheaper. just gotta use it when the police do aswell, but they just blow through the red lights.

thats why it has a cord.
im dead serious. it doesnt take that much power to set off a light. you would be suprised.

i work for these people, installing piaa lighting and garmin gps whenever they are on the east coast at a rally or whatever, but look at his write up. this is all it takes to set off a light, so it wouldnt take that much to set off a light from 1/4 mile away. :-\

pfft. ill believe it when i see it. the lights are timed. between certain houres they go green or red for a certain time frame.

where im from, its all about magnatized ----. i do know though in bigger cities lights are timed.

those magnents work. you know the little octogons i the road when you pull up to a light....those are sensors. it takes magnetics to set them off.

rsmith2786 10-13-2004 04:44 PM

Re:I hate red lights, do you?

Those rectangles sense when a car is above them because the whole car is somewhat magnetic. Its just a coil of wire and when you drive over it it produces a very small ammount of current. A magnet would do the same thing but i doubt from a mile away.

kain 10-13-2004 04:47 PM

Re:I hate red lights, do you?

here there is nothing of the sort. no octogons no rectangles no nothing. just paint on the ground.

as i said before kain, in the cities, these dont exist. in the countries/smaller towns, they work great.

did you read that link. it tells you dummy style.

Re:I hate red lights, do you?

Out here they use the magnet deals and timed cycles. That ---- pisses me off late at night. I can hit every single mother ------- red light and it turns green for NOBODY. Nobody is coming, yet it turns red for me and green for nobody. OMG I want to shoot people when that ---- happens. >:(

Flash your highbeams a few times that usually makes the other side go red and your side go green.

Doesn't work. Cops will actually give you a ticket for that and when they pull you over they will tell you you're a dumbass for thinking it will work. If you could flash them like 50x/second you might be able to do it, but otherwise no. :P

I don't think that it is really worth it. I live in a city, and I can live with a few reds.

If you ever get caught you will get some crazy fines. Probably impersonating an officer and some others

**edited for Doc.boost**
Those who think that product will work are all wrong.Street lights work with magnetic loops under the pavement that sense when a car is at an intersection. That is then relayed to the controller wich has a timer.

That ---- he's selling wont work.

What sets off the signals to turn green for emergency vehicles is a sensor on top of the light that looks like a little camera. Its light sensative.you need the intensity of a flashing strobe light at a specific distance to set it off so that the light turns green for you.....just be patient ::).

Its just like when dumb ----------ers that think that the faster you push the button to cross the street the faster it will turn to let you cross.....its a ------- switch! You only need to push it once. You can stand there and push the button till your fingers fall of and it wont turn anny faster.

How the ---- do I know all this.Well Ive been an electrician long enough ;)

Re:I hate red lights, do you?

streetlights work in one of two ways, most operate of time based sequence and others work of the presence of vehicles.

some work via time base during the day (peak hours) then switch to presence base at night time. next time u drive late night/ early morn, you will notice how the light changes as soon as you approach it. this is trigered by magnetic sensors in the ground like some one else sed. next time you stop at a light look on the ground right before the intersection, you will see what looks like boxes with the edges cut off, thoes are the sensors.

also the magnetic thing for motorcycles will not make the light turn green as you approach it, it only lets the light know that you are there so, it will put you in que and not make you sit there for ever.

the other device is basically a strobe light that flashes at a high rate of speed, letting the light know that an emergency vehicle is there that neeeds to get through. if u look at newer stop lights, they have mounted on top what looks like a camera on top that seems to facing the wrong direction. that is a flood light that is designed to let the emergency vehicle know that the light has cahnged and its safe to proceed.

btw, my unlce works for florida DOT, thats how i know this.

i alwase found that some sort of camera that flashes the strobe light befor the initial flash does the trick. 80% of the time it doesnt work because your too close.

that would be simple, you could just hook up a flasher unit to your high beam then take out the main resistor in the flasher unit, wire the missing resistor wires to a adjustable potentiometer(sp?), then click on your highbeams and wahlah! :)

so whats right does the emergency thiung work because its made for them or are they both bullshit? and if all it is is an infrared beam can i just use my tv remote and change the light with my channel up button? all they doo is pulse i-r light waves. same ---- right
