I hate leaks (got a Q)
well, these are dry leaks, but they still suck.
Those gaskets I made for the HF manifold, and the turbo side are in fact leaking and I didn't know about it.. I always have heard the exhaust from up front, but thought it was my downpipe connection to the turbo, but I was wrong. I have to rip everything back out and get new gaskets, but that's my question. Where can I find the gasket for the bottom of the HF manifold? And also one for the IHI RHb5 Turbo square flange? I'm sure glad I found these leaks though, I'm sure I was loosing a great deal of power. I need those gaskets! At least I'm not driving the rex now, so no big hurry, but any help would help me out a lot. |
Re:I hate leaks (got a Q)
dealers? or mr gasket?
|
Re:I hate leaks (got a Q)

Re:I hate leaks (got a Q)
Where would i get gaskets for a greddy manifold and a 15g turbo. Ive already tried contacting greddy and no one has e-mailed me back. Is there some kind of material i can buy that i can custom fit to my needs?
|
Re:I hate leaks (got a Q)
just bought a new hf gasket myself from manchester honda, 18 dollars. i was also leaking, but now i have zero exhaust noise from the engine bay,
|
Re:I hate leaks (got a Q)
you can probably make your own gasket?
|
Re:I hate leaks (got a Q)
Does anyone know what kind of material i could use.(sheet metal maybe? or will that get too hot?) I need to make a gasket for my 15g turbo. Im not sure exactly where it's leaking, but it leaves my heat shield black in one spot, which greatly narrows it down. I was wondering if i could use something rather than buy the "real" gaskets, cause greddy won't talk to me :(

Re:I hate leaks (got a Q)
Really thin sheet metal should work. Maybe use a couple layers.

Re:I hate leaks (got a Q)
How resiliant is it to heat? What will happen to it under that amount of heat? Also, will it form a good seal if it's torqued down really well?
|
Re:I hate leaks (got a Q)
Only one way to find out. ;) It should hold up fine. Some of the gaskets on my setup seem to be made out of sheet metal and they hold up fine.

Re:I hate leaks (got a Q)
Yeah got the same problem here....Guess because my flange got bend when I welded the collector to it.
I tried to grind it straight, but It's not straight enough :( I will grind off some more and use 2 gaskets |
Re:I hate leaks (got a Q)
I took everything out today and it only took like 30 min! I had everything ripped out in no time.. whew..
Took some pictures which doesn't really matter, but I did anyway (they are on my geocities site in my sig). I wouldn't waste your time making them.. that's what I did the first time and now I pay the price. The only thing I would try is some type of sheet metal idea, but I'm not sure if it would hold the heat ??? there's a lot under there. I knew I had some type of problems when that little rhb5 turbo didn't reach full boost until 3200 rpm. Can't wait to have this fixed and driving again.. also fixed a restriction in my intake side pipe.. wow, some major improvements here... lol |
Re:I hate leaks (got a Q)
So you don't think that sheet metal is gona hold under that heat?
|
Re:I hate leaks (got a Q)
I'm not sure... I'll search on google.
Well, while searching on google I came over this: http://www.gasket-packing.com/ I just like the music in the background.. I'll find out soon enough |
Re:I hate leaks (got a Q)
Make sure you turn your speakers up really loud before you click that link. ;) That ---- rocks!!

Re:I hate leaks (got a Q)
Ok... I'm going to try something new. I got this gasket sheet stuff at NAPA and it's suppose to be the real good stuff. I'll be trying it out and I'll let y'all know how it holds.
It's green in color, and it's only around 6 bucks for 1 sqaure foot. |
Re:I hate leaks (got a Q)
NAPA has it, and its very heat resistant? ???
