I hate computers

So I just did a fresh install of windows xp pro for the first time, when I first did it I made a partition of 6 gigs and then one for the rest and installed windows on the 6 gig partition, which aparently isn't the cool thing to do because all of my programs want to install there. So can I make the partition bigger so I can install all of my ---- there. Or what the hel should I do. This is gay.

Also when I was instaling my drivers the one for the cd drive had me make a bootable cd which I ran, and it said it didn't apply to my hardware, but since the computer seems to sit on the windows loading screen with th bar going back and forth for a long time, how do I fix this

ok. lets tackle problem number one. when you install programs, it asks where you wish to install them. for example, in the instalation wizards for any program you want to install, it asks you fo the instalation destination. just redirect it to a different folder on the different drive or different partition. make sure you have MINEMUM 1 gig free space on the hard drive or partition that windows sits on.

now the cdrom. its fucked. bvuy a new one. they are 15 bucks for a dvd/cdrom. or go all out and get a dvd rw for like 80 bucks. get lite-on products simply because... they are the best products that you can buy. period.

he's right one one, or if you want to make the partition bigger, partition magic for the win.
as far as a drive, get the NEC2500a from newegg.com and upgrade the firmwaure to 2510a. FTW.

oh also Do I need driver for my hard drives, because I can find installation software for them but not just drivers, and they are installed and seem to be working fine

you dont need a driver for teh hard drive..

what you should have done is ran driver magician before u reformatted that backs up all your drivers then u can burn em onto a cd and voilla no bs involved

if it sits at that bar going back and fourth for a long time it means ur computer is slow :P

holy crap, kain stick to Linux.

1. the BEST dvd-rw you can buy for the average retail price is a BenQ 1650, it's 45$ CDN, so what 40US$ Incase you want to argue, PLEXTOR uses BENQ guts on their drives, FYI :)

2. you dont need a driver for your harddrive, or DVD/cd/whatever drive.

3. the NEC2500 is ancient, the current lineup is 35xx.

4. really the only drivers you should be installing are motherboard/chipset drivers, video card driver, and sound driver, some new network cards/ports will require a driver install too, but most of the older ones work out of the box w/ winxp.

5. to elaborate on what kain said about your programs installing here or there.... when you install a program it will usualy want to install to C:\PROGRAM FILES\SOME_BS_DIRECTORY just make it install to D:\PROGRAMS (which should be your other partition. the DVD/cd drive should be E:\

have fun
