I f'ed up big time.....Need opinions
Ok so i was putting together an LS tonight, totally stock motor.... I Was taking out the headbolts one by one and replacing with ARP's. That went over smooth and then I took off the cam gears. Well I was drinking and talking with friends and one of the cam gear keys/keepers fell into the bottom of the timing cover! So I was trying to get the crank pully off and long story short the bottom end turned and the cams didn't. So basically I'm wondering if the bottom end turned almost a full revolution with the cams at TDC, do you guys think it would bend the valves? I'm hoping not, only because the low compression of the LS motor, I thought There may be enough clearance for it to happen? I just want opionions.... TIA!

id be willing to bet you'll be ok.
id risk it, slap it all together and see what happens. |

Re: I f'ed up big time.....Need opinions
do a leakdown test and that should tell you for sure, but other than that, I think you're just drunk and worried for no reason. lol ;D

dude if you were turining the motor over by hand, you would feel if a valve hit a piston. I t would be basically a dead stop. you should be cool

Re: I f'ed up big time.....Need opinions
you would feel the resistance of metal on metal before the valve bent. lets just hope you werent too drunk to notice
|
Re: I f'ed up big time.....Need opinions
it actually doesnt take much to bend a valve, so I hope you wernt reafing the ---- out of the motor. I say save your money and dont buy a leak down tester, just put everything together and see what happens.
you say the head never came off for the arp install? you do know once you untorque a head your are suppose to replace the headgasket. |
Re: I f'ed up big time.....Need opinions
wait, You were drunk working on it and I was drunk making that post. So what was keeping the motor from spinningwhile you were using a big bar to get the crank pulley bolt off. beacause, if you answer is nothing the real answer is probably a valve :-\

Re: I f'ed up big time.....Need opinions
I did a t-belt on a accord at work and just touched the vavles, sooooooo very gently. Bent two just a little but the cyl was dead at idle cant remember comp #'s the valve stems are so very small :-[

Re: I f'ed up big time.....Need opinions
ok i was on the crank pulley with a breaker bar, my buddy was holding another bar onthe flywheel side, his slipped so the motor turned, thats why i dont think i would have felt it, i was pulling my ass off and then it happend too quick for me to "feel if i hit a valve"....I think I may just pull the head and check it out and replace the hg while im there
