I bought a BMW, made a video

I got rid of the Chevy crappalier because some :1 offered me $3250 for it. Picked up a 95 325i with 150k on it for $3500, clean title too. Only downside is that it's automatic, oh well though...only $250 bucks out of pocket (not counting registering) to upgrade from a ------' cavaqueer to a BMW :6

It's my wife's DD and the main baby taxi so the autotragic is pretty nice to have at times. And as you will see in the video, the manual sport shift button makes for some pretty fun times if you have some gas to burn ;D

My first fully edited video ;)

edit: pic of the cavalier for reference:

I wouldn't call it an upgrade, actually the Cavalier would probably be the better choice.

its an upgrade for sure, but some traction, a quickie tune, and a 5speed would made a hella more livable upgrade :y

I was going to flame the panties off this guy for being a n00b, but if he's your friend he's alright in my book.

I couldn't totally withhold being a dick tho - I gave the vid a one star rating. Sorry about that, I really do like the mid-90's 3 and 5 series and I think it was a great choice.

I hate cavaliers but I sure would hate to trade in a 4 cylinder for a gas-hungry pig, especially with these gas prices.

Other than that, good deal ;)

I had the same car... minus the auto gayness. They're fun, but all the little problems and quirks were getting on my nerves. Everytime I fixed something, another issue would come up.

It's only a 2.5 so gas mileage isn't bad. It gets 32mpg on the freeway with CC and about 23 around town. Averaged 28 on the last tank.

Any major drivetrain, or was it just small electrical and other BS? I'm seriously considering getting an early-mid 90s autotragic BMW for the gf since she's not getting the 5 speed thing.

Re: I bought a BMW, made a video

When you look...Go for the 2.5 M50tu motor, came in the 325i/is and 525i. They are well known for going upwards of 400,000miles without anything but regular maintenance.

With that said, most problems are going to be electrical and other things the work happy Germans over-engineered.

Re: I bought a BMW, made a video

Yah, I remember going over a 92 325i convertable with 100K on it, car was 6-7 years old at the time. Owner was looking to fix all the small ---- before selling it, ran up a $1K bill replacing power antenna masts and silly ----. The only thing that's ouch-y about them is having to step to the dealer for brake pads because everything else didn't have the wear sensor and/or squealled like hell. See also: Mercedes.

I didn't know for sure, but kind of assumed, than the 325i and 525i were the same engine. I drove one (1) 525i automagic, and it was slow as balls. I see why Yuriney bought one with M5 badges.

Re: I bought a BMW, made a video

get an e34 not an e36... the e36's are the cheapo versions of EVERYTHING the e34 barely wieghs more, has a lot better suspension, more room for fatty tire, feels a lot less cheap on the road, has more engine bay space, and fewer O0 :8 make them look like shiite.

An JD, you can get whatever badges you want for her, so long as it ends up fast. ^-^

Yeah some electrical, but a lot of other odd things (IE: my passenger door wouldn't open from the outside, ignition barrell would spin multiple times before 'catching' when turning the key).

The drivetrain was fine except I had to change out the guibo (Flex Disc)... it attaches the tranny to the drive shaft. Basically, it's a piece of rubber with woven fibers that reduces driveline vibrations for smoother operation. After 130K+ the stock one was toast and was causing massive vibrations when accelerating. It took me about 2 hours or so.... you have to drop the exhaust & pull back the drive shaft. Just something to look for.

They still use those? I knew the old 2002's did, I figured that went the way of the stone age.

They still use them. 2003-present toureg, Q7, and Cayenne. Fail.

Re: I bought a BMW, made a video

Yah, they were used in Mk2 and non-73 Mk3 GT6 as an outer u-joint affair, referred to affectionately as "roto-flex couplings."

Re: I bought a BMW, made a video

the ones in this era of bmw will hold 150k of granny driving or ~100k of normal use. Withstand ~800+whp, only guys switching to solid ones/eliminating them are drag only near 1000whp tools with DSS setups that suck worse than stock.

Re: I bought a BMW, made a video

i picked up a 95 M3 for $3500 2 years ago. it was a bank repo. i guess thats all that was owed on it.

anyway, as for reliability it has been awesome. it has almost 200k on it now and only has some minor issues. it needs a guibo and a few bushings and also some ball joints. i put a MAF on it and a cooolant bottle. thats about it so far. a supercharger is in the works, but thats after the civic puts some serious power to the wheels
