How much would you pay?

I am looking for a general consensus on how much you guys would pay for a 1990 civic hatch DX 5 speed. The color is red but needs repainted (fading). It has a mini-me swap in it (said to have been rebuilt). the guy just finished a DPFI to MPFI conversion on it and is said to run now. The ecu is one for a non-vtec motor though, so vtec wont engage. The brake rotors probably need turned and it needs new pads along with bleeding. It also needs a new exhaust system and or bolting it all back up (cant remember). It needs an alignment and new tires. The interior is being swapped out to a blue color so it wont have the original gray color anymore. It has no options (all manual) The guys is looking for $1200 without fixing any of the problems on it. What would you pay?

your gonna spend around $300-500 fixing things on it right away, i'd have to somewhat agree with rawrs price range, altho i think he's being a little genours with the 1000

Re: How much would you pay?

yeah I was a little skeptical when I found out that it needed more work than I thought. Plus I would have to tow it to my house to found out everything that will need to be fixed :-\

Yeah really. I looked at a 89 DX 5 speed stock with 200+k miles and they wanted 2100. They are expensive around here. And if you find a rex under 3 grand your lucky.

yeah there pretty expensive here to for a car that blue books for $1000 in excellent condition :l. I however found a wholesale lot that has some good deals, so Ill look into that before I hand any cash over :6

Re: How much would you pay?

The car has a z6 bottom end and a y8 head. all rebuilt. y8 intake mani with b16 throttle body. What it needs is some tranny fluid and some front brakes and an alignment. It has a full exhaust all you need is some exhaust bolts were it bolts to header which is aftermarket ( dont remember what though). HAs an act clutch and d16a6 transmission It runs but no vtec, youll have to go obd1 or get a vtec controller. Chances are you can get the paint buffed back lookin good, but since you said you had already planned on gettin it painted then why complain about the paint. Last time i looked the tires were ok.

Re: How much would you pay?

The body had 140k mi.,pretty straight, paint shiny but rust on rear quarters. Interior was good except for a wear spot on rear fold down seats, no rips or burns though. Engine was swpped w/ another 1.6l (not sure of correct mileage). Excessive smoke due to valve guides. 5sp was noisy, brakes had x-drilled rotors but rear pistons were n/g. Many misc. but necessary parts were in need of replacement. (main relay, dizzy, etc.) I was hasty in buying the car and I may have overpaid, but after all of the work Ive done to it I dont regret it at all. Maybe I should have been patient and saved for the GN I really wanted.

Got my 1994 DX Sedan man. in perfect working order, oxidation on the roof, other than that, in perfect working order. Parents paid $1000 for it as a birthday present.

Re: How much would you pay?

If the body is straight and rust free I would pay the $1200. Its getting pretty hard to come by a rust free, hell even a good condition ef hatch these days(where I live anyway). So to me it seems like a pretty good deal even if it needs some minor work.

but considering that they only blue book 1100 in PERFECT CONDITION, I dont know maybe I just dont see the "hidden value"(Demand) for these cars. Im just looking for a commuter till I save more money to buy a nice teggy :P

whats the diff between the nada and bb value. and no thanks on the geo :X I understand that Hondas never go for "bb value" thanks to gas prices and ricers :3

Re: How much would you pay?

Well i can't really tell you what the differences is but look on there websites and they will tell you what they base there numbers off of...Kinda simple supply and demand, people want hondas, nice ones are getting harder to find, when i buy a honda i base most of the value on body, motors are cheap, yea you can repair a body but Its easyer to get a good motor, if there is any body damage if its only on bolt on parts then shouldn't be a big problem and well paint on an older car isn't going to be perfect, the car seems like a good deal and should be solid with a little work but with any used car you could be getting someone elses headache, do you know why he is selling the car?

jecu 03-07-2006 02:10 PM

Re: How much would you pay?

yeah hes selling it to get another ef hatch (Si), I just didnt think the old hatches were really wanted, because I mean its just......an old hatchback :P

Im just getting a little turned off because I really didnt want someones else's project and need something I can jump right into and drive, oh well

Re: How much would you pay?

EFs are still a wanted car grrr...they are the cheapest hondas and still have a good aftermarket following, yea most people want there own project if thats the case then don't look at a car that isn't stock, oh course you gonna pay more for a clean stock car than you would for a modded car (unless the person dosn't know what they have) but then you don't have to look at it and be liek wat was this person thinking, or how did they do this

I find the clean stock cars to be cheaper around here than the modded (riced out) cars. I see people selling $500 cars for $5000 because they have a $1000 motor swap in it :3

Well EFs with swaps will catch a bit more just because its a little more work to get the b motor in than new civics, most people will ask more for a modded car but depending whats done the altezas and fart can will bring the price down

mattnteclipse your car seems well priced, I wasn't even talking directly about your car in half this thread but just making sure you knew i wasn't bad mouthing you ;)

nah from info I have gathered and what people have said on here, I dont think the price is to high. I think my problem is that Im worried there will be hidden problems that you may not even know about that I will encounter. Its just so hard to decide whether to buy a cheaper car that needs work to drive, or to buy a more expensive car and be able to hop right in and go. :-\
