how much is a S14 Silvia rear sub frame assebly worth?

i know squat about nissans and was wondering if i'm getting a good deal or not... i'm picking one up next week for $500 CDN. complete assembly is from a S14 JDM silvia with no rust... includes subframe, axles, spindles, VLSD diff, brake calipers and rotors, control arms etc. all that is missing is the struts and springs.

I used to work at a engine import place and it was something like 300-400 plus shipping so it sounds about right.

300- or so is about what they go for here. $500cdn there, I think that would be about right.

don't be foolish... of course! ;)

Re: how much is a S14 Silvia rear sub frame assebly worth?

no I didn't mean the like the wagovan's whole engine/drivetrain. Just the rearend stuff. I wouldn't be too hard to toss in a stronger diff and fab up new mounts and stronger axles.

Re: how much is a S14 Silvia rear sub frame assebly worth?

If you paid any attention to what highroller had to do in order to fit the wagovan stuff into his Civic hatch, yes, it very much is a lot of fab work. The wagovan stuff does not just bolt right in.

Haha yeah didn't he get squashed between a truck and a wall or some ---- like that? i remember him posting about barely being able to walk and take a piss and some other cry baby ----. But for real, he needs to finish that car cuz its bad ass.

So is it going to be a stock block F20c with the six speed and boost or are you up to something more? >:D

Re: how much is a S14 Silvia rear sub frame assebly worth?

why an F20c? sounds pointless.

And buying a JDM subframe assembly is more pointless. The subframes are tough ----, I've seen solid subframes come out of cars that had rust holes in the floorboards, just sandblast the subframe and it's all good. The VLSDD is even more pointless. Besides the shitty performance, they wear out real fast then suck more.

I measured up the strut towers on my 4G civic, it looks like a front sump SBF/C should fit with 3-4" to spare. You would need to fabricate a tunnel, and probably reinforce the front x-member (since that's where the engine mounts would be attatched) but it shouldn't be any more work than an F20C. An LS1 w/ T56 also costs less than a F20C, and makes more power. It's light too, I know that combo is about 100lbs less than a KA24DE w/ 5spd. The only tricky part is the exhaust, and you could probably pull it off the way that pintos did it (run the headers forward, then curve back and under the x-member).

This'll be crazy no matter what and with Aaron behind all this. The fab work should be top notch.

Blasphemy!

Or atleast thats what I figured JD would say. Never played with an F20, but I think the LSX line of engines would be a better alternative, for sure. :)

Re: how much is a S14 Silvia rear sub frame assebly worth?

Well, IMO, CRXs shouldn't be RWD. If they have to be they shouldn't be powered by an engine that doesn't deserve to exist. However, to be fair, I am sure a master fabricator could field the sort of RWD CRX that would change my mind.

http://www.americanlemans.com/News/Article.aspx?ID=2724

When you stick with it for 60 years your bound to get it right eventually.

Yeah the engine is a horribly outdated design, but it works. I like to think of it as a weight conscious engine. Push rods suck, but they weigh less than another camshaft, and that saves the weight of a larger cam drive setup. Same deal with the 2-valve head. It's not ideal, but it weighs less than 4, and it works. They can pump them up to 800hp and hold 8000rpm for hours, so you can't really argue with it.

If I build another 240sx it will get an LSx series engine. You just can't argue with the performance. You can have 350tq/350hp damn near stock, naturally aspirated, and reliable, or dump $$$ into an SR to get a peaky 250tq/350hp.

Re: how much is a S14 Silvia rear sub frame assebly worth?

Not to mention, a LSx crx would scare some people when you pull up to them. Would an LS1 fit in the bay decently? Space is pretty cramped and the engine bays for domestics usually seem as large as the crx itself... I'm pretty sure I saw a crx before with a v8, can't remember what engine though.

but would an ls1 even fit with the trans tunnel and everything? ----, you could probably link the tranny directly to the rear end.

Yeah that was my question. It fit a little better in the 96 hatch than I thought. Is it safe to cut out the firewall and have an engine sticking through it? If it was in a CRX it'd seem like the block would be roasting your nuts... Would hate to get into an accident, in a crx, when a block sitting less than a foot away. My accident wasn't at a horribly high speed and the block was broke off the mounts and pushed to the firewall.

Haha.

4th gen Camaros have one of the shittiest engine bays ever... only thing worse is a C4.

how far it put them back in an EK would have you sitting on top of the rear wheels in a rex :)

Will definitly require a cage to keep it from twisting up, that solves the safety issue. As for the heat, just gotta cover the firewall & tunnel with some of that reflective ----. As for space, you might have to pull the engine to change the plugs, but they run platinums :)
