how long does it take for gas to go bad?

it'll be fine, my dad (RIP) left his Jag for a few years with some fuel in the tank and it struck up with a couple of turns and ran ok

it will lose knock resistance.

Gas stores pretty well in an air-tight container, but in a gas tank it will go bad in a couple months.
