flywheel is not new, just the clutch, i usually do 500 miles, that seems to be the general consensus.

Re:how long do you guys break in a clutch?

I do 100 miles...but I feel it begin to really grab after about 150-200 miles.
I just use 10W-40 the manual says you can use that to ;D

resurface the flywheel bamboo!

i used Honda MTF, didnt make my tranny feel any better then b4, nor any worse. Lots of people use GM Syncromesh FM, but who knows if its any good or not?

Re:how long do you guys break in a clutch?

dammi put 20-50 weight on my tranny last night..only because the kragen across the street was closed and my neighbor had some in his garage and gave me some. it feels good though and it grabs alot better than stock. however the clutch seems a bit more stiff compared to stock but i dont GIVE A ----!

oh yeah i broke the sensor that goes on the side of the head next to the oil plug..i think its the water temp sensor. anyway i tried starting the car without it and i got a CEL, when i gave it gas it shut off....i thought that was odd, so i punked the plug off my hatch and fixed the prob....

ditto. That's how we do. Last clutch I got changed, I said I'll break it in for 300 miles. The day the clutch was in, I say it lasted about 3 miles. Beat on that ---- like there's no tomorrow. Hey looks like it's doin the job, over 2 years later, the clutch still grabs hard, chirping 2nd and 3rd on occasion. And it's a stock clutch. ;D And I put 10-30.

Julio, you funny mexican, you put 20-50 :D. I actaully put 20-50 in the engine of one of my crx's a ways back. Ran pretty good.

Re:how long do you guys break in a clutch?

i run 10w-40 in mine.... and lets just say the break in period is backing the car out of the garage and onto the road where it is then subject to repeated burnouts.

my last few clutchs have been oem becuase i have a 1yr warrnety on them and the damn springs keep breaking :)

oh well

I'm gonna give this one a nice easy trip to san diego to pick up my buddy, and then whatever it gets between getting back and going to the track on saturday. I'm gonna rape it on saturday.

what's your opinions on using synthetic oil in your tranny, some (if not most) say it's bad for synchros, others swear by it. you guys?

Re:how long do you guys break in a clutch?

The last clutch I broke in I backed out of the driveway, drove up the road about 100 yards and beat the ---- out of it for the rest of the time I owned it. The clutch outlasted the motor and is actually for sale in the classified section here for the second time. :o

coz syco needs the right amount of friction (enough time) to speed match the gears, and synthetic oil is a little too ~~slippry~~ for the syco that it does not give it enough time (not enough friction)to spin = grinding

Re:how long do you guys break in a clutch?

when i broke in my ACT clutch, i did this:

1. started the car
2. slowly rolled it outta the garage
3. put it in first
4. and SMOKED THE ---- OUTTA MY AZENIS

a clutch aint like a motor, you dont have to break it in. i think it's a myth of the car noobs.
