how good is the Supra engine, 7MGTE?
Okay so I hope I got the engine code right, but I am wondering about the 3rd-gen Supra engines, the 230-HP ones, because I think it'd be fun to drop one into a MkII Supra (because of the light body). I also think it'd be a good choice over the 2JZ engine only because you can get them hella cheaper. I can prolly score a JDM 7MGTE for $1000, and add about $3500 to that if you want the 2JZ. But does this engine hold up to boost and mods very well? I was hoping for power around 300 HP, or maybe just around 250 would be enough.

i've seen 45o RWHP out of one. from what i understand they don't get along with headgaskets too well. and for the 300 you're looking for you'll probably need new rods.

It really would be smarter for me to think about a 2JZ engine, though... I would have tons of fun with one of those engines stock, assuming it'd bolt into the MkII chassis.

Re:how good is the Supra engine, 7MGTE?
the 7mgte will handle 300hp on stock bottom end just fine, you will need a new headgasket since toyota did not torque them enough when made... add a t3/t4 and 550cc injectors along with a lexus sc400 afm, 3 inch dp and exhaust, upgrade intercooler and piping, no problem
with all that properly tuned you should get 320 or more hp it's just not all that cheap ;D |
Re:how good is the Supra engine, 7MGTE?
all you have to do is lengthen the injector pulse and tune the nos timing and you'll be running 9's
