How good are 1999 prelude triptronic autos?

How good are the triptronic (i think that is how you spell it) transmissions? I have a chance of getting a 99 for $12500. Oh yeah I also found a 2001 civic ex for $10900

what are you looking for? If the prelude is the SH model, jump on it. that was a good production year.

The autos suck ass. A friend of mine was running 9 psi on his auto H22 lude and the tranny took a dive. If you buy it, expect to put a 5 speed in it if you want to make serious power.

No i don't have a lot of money but I just sold my turbo civic and have money for the downpayment and work for a bank and was approved at 3.0%. I test drove the prelude and it is pretty cool. I have never driven a sport shift auto. its just like a stick with no clutch. i think i may pick it up. No mods on this one.

Re:How good are 1999 prelude triptronic autos?

The people i know that have one had no problems with it but it was stock. there is a bit of hesitation in the shifting when you are in triptonic but its no horrible. Its a fun car to ride and drive. I would say jump on it.

Damn for that much money you can probably get a civic si, gsr, or some kind of vtec with manual tranny, .....now were talking!!!

Re:How good are 1999 prelude triptronic autos?

anything without a clutch pedal is gay in my book. dont buy it, you will hate it forever. all it is is an automatic with frosting on top, still has a torque converter, still doesnt have a clutch, still cant do burnouts. not worth it at ALL.

Re:How good are 1999 prelude triptronic autos?

Boosted Bseires said it perfect!! No clutch, no burnouts, no high as launches bouncing off redline...then no fun!! :P
I have a friend with one of those tiptronic bullshits and he already cracked his tranny :-X ...... sucks huh!

sucks to have a car that you have to drop the clutch to burnoff in

Re:How good are 1999 prelude triptronic autos?

Triptronic sucks!!!
I've never driven a prelude with this but my girlfriend somehow got me to buy and auto IS 300 with the same non-sense and it sucks. I rather whip the crap out of my stick civic any day. No clutch=borring. I mean, the freaking thing handles like a dream and the motor has plenty of power, but I can't put it all down 'cause there is a torque converter robbing me. If you can't rip-out with this thing then where is the fun?

If you just want a ride to cruise around with and relanx and have fun with ya gurl buy it.
If you got more in mind....don't.

Re:How good are 1999 prelude triptronic autos?

the car overall is still a honda and is nice luxurious, semi sport and reliable. If ur asking how good the car is to a performance enthusiasts of our modern age. Or a HMt guy, then its garbage, autos are for weenies and u look really dumb when u try and race with one. The step tronic doesnt give you any extra power really it jus gives the fun illusion of a stick, only ferrari has perfected the steptronic to be a faster then a stick, or so they claim, anyways that thing is as slow as a stock v6 probe, if u want to be compared to that, thats pretty damn embarassing, they have no off the line pick up and for having 200hp u would think theyd get going on the freeway... but they dont, theyre a laughing joke

haha im sure u would i was stuck in that position once as well, where are u located so i can show u what 5 gears instead of 4 and a 6 puck does 4 u my man

Re:How good are 1999 prelude triptronic autos?

my auto is a 69 chevelle with a big block 396 and a turbo hydrolic transmission. 3 speed. it shifters faster and hard than you could EVER DREAM OF

LSD Motorsports 08-26-2003 01:35 AM

Re:How good are 1999 prelude triptronic autos?

uhh goober? and how much did that cost u buddy? Lastly u mean to tell me that 3 gears is better then 4 or 5 or 6? u obviously need to take up some engineering courses.. i never said ur racing auto tranny was wack, so dont come at me like that

J-SMITH69 08-26-2003 01:38 AM

Re:How good are 1999 prelude triptronic autos?

it costs a couple hundred for a stall converter and about 1000 to rebuilt it with the hardest shifting shift kit.

its a street car not a dragster.

lots and lots of pro street dragsters that run 10s and faster use TH400 trannies. with 3 speeds.

you should've said HONDA automatic transmissions. the new auto vettes will smoke bout any stock car.

LSD Motorsports 08-26-2003 01:44 AM

Re:How good are 1999 prelude triptronic autos?

geez u wont quit it will u, sure better engineering in auto trannies is around but it also exists in manual.. simply stated manual is the fun way to go, the gold old fashion way for free power compared to a samely geared 3 spd and my tranny was free.. it came with the car... the sick puck wasnt but i guarantee u cant chirp fourth gear... oh wait you dont have one HAAAAAAAAA, Manuals rape, go get yourself one bud and let me know how it grand ya

J-SMITH69 08-26-2003 01:49 AM

Re:How good are 1999 prelude triptronic autos?

when you have an engine with BALLS. you dont need to have so many gears and such a high ratio.

your car won't chrip 4th gear either. if it does you need bigger tires.

i have a turbo integra with a 5 speed, and a 67 camaro with a 4 speed. don't need to tell me driving a stick shift is fun. driving an auto that chirps the tires when you're at half throttle is fun also. and i can hold the auto in 1st/2nd gear. there just isn't a clutch.

all serious dragsters use autos. you can't even come close to shifting as fast or consistant as one. top fuel dragsters use autos kinda like the triptronic deal. all they do is pull a lever for each gear.

Re:How good are 1999 prelude triptronic autos?

duh u act like racing isnt my life, i dont want to argue with u man, u are obviously knowledgable, props on the integ, and yes i do chirp 4th and it doesnt mean i need wider tires... so theres a lil something u dont know. Do you have any chatting device. if not meet me in the chat room
mike
