I'm getting ready to assemble my block since I have everything now but debating on if I should take my block to a machine shop to get it honed or by a hone tool and do it myself and save the money. Is this pretty easy and something I could do or is it pretty iffy on the possibility of ruining the walls. If it's easy enough should I get the dingle berry hone tool or the one with the 3 stones? Oh man I want to get this thing together!!!!

id go with the bottle brush hone from what ive heard and seen there easier to work with

I'm searching on this and some say just wipe it down with brake cleaner to get the glaze off. If it doesn't need to be bored then it doesn't need to be honed. Just clean it with brake cleaner then wash it down with soap and water and then oil it so it doesn't rust. I'm just gonna go with the bottle brush and get this over with so I can start putting this thing together and on the road finally. Can I leave the crank in or do I have to take that out? This is my first internal build up if you can't tell so this is quite the learing experience for me but I love this instead of having someone else do it and just being blind on what goes on with a rebuild.

bs. Give it a nice finishing hone every time you change pistons/rings. I like to use atf as a lube for the hone. You can leave the crank in but you really need to clean it up good.

Rule of thumb.
Always hone when putting new rings.
Its usually like 100 bucks to hone at a machine shop.
Well worth it imo.

ya u always hone the block, i like to even if im not puting new rings in it, just because it saves the other rings, and lets yours get more oil and have a longer life, i would take the crank out of the block, because of medal shards and also not being able to hit the bottom of the blocl properly with the hone. henry i told u that man, lol, ive put a few motors together and ive always, honed them, decked them and got them hot tanked, if not just cleaned. so all the left over ---- isnt there. im not sure whitch hone to get but i herd the e stone is best for our blocks, its what my dad used on myn at his machine shop. it should be cross hatch pattern like when u sand a car, lol. but hope it works for u man, i want to see the bitch boost... it will be sick when your done, tt ls=

If anyone has dingleberry(bottle neck, flex-hone) tool for my LS I'd buy it from you! Noone around me sells them.

if you know anyone that works at a VW dealer, they use the dingle berry one and it fits b-series, most VW 4 cyl are 81mm
