Re: how do you launch your turbo car?

i preload and launch at 6500rpm with 24.5X8.5 m&h slicks pullin 1.6's, 1.7's

Rice Rocket 05-06-2007 10:35 AM

Re: how do you launch your turbo car?

if i had some slicks launch it that high too.... but all i got is some street tires that spin like crazy if i launch at like 3000rpm. but if i launch at like lets say 2000rpm the fucker just wont go. and as for my set up i got a t25 turbo .42 .48, dsm 390's, starion ic, boost is @ 7lbs as of now. so would my best bet be to get some drag radials? and launch it high?

I suck at launching, I have my launch control set at 5000, so I just hit that a few times and drop the clutch.

Which sucks though, because I just spin first, shift into second, and spin that to the redline, so 3rd gear is the first gear that really grips for me. I suck at drag racing. lol

I have an automatic, put my foot on the brake and hold it till I hit about 2500 to 3000 rpm and let it go. 2.0 60fts on bfg drag radials.

I have street tires. I usually rev it up to 5500rpms and sidestep the clutch. I get consistent 1.90 60ft times. If I launch any lower than that my car bogs down :-)

With that SRT-4? You have LSD and basically DR's if they're the stock tires. That's cheating.

Just slip the clutch. Depends on your set-up, filled mounts, inserts, LSD, tires, turbo, traction bars, I could go on. Pre-load and slip the clutch, I don't pre-load, but will this year.

What exactly is preloading? And how do you do it or know your not doing it?

I heard you can break axles if you dont do this

I launch my neon about 1700rpms... Never WOT in first... second I rail and off I'm going.

pull up ebrake and hold the button down, start to slip the clutch until it starts to grab slightly to take any slack out of the drivetrain. rev it to desired RPM for launch while still slightly slipping and then dump the clutch and the ebrake handle at the same time.

viola no shocking the drivetrain and shattering parts.

Thats preloading.

Re: how do you launch your turbo car?

Ive never done it that way, Ive never launched my car off the limiter though

Dont understand what the ebrake does for preloading anything though

daubleaaron 05-07-2007 12:32 PM

Re: how do you launch your turbo car?

You have your ebrake on just to keep yourself stationary. The preloading is setting all your tranny gears and axles up for the force they are about to take. Imagine puching a brick wall from a foot away, you can get quite a impact, thats no preload.. Now try punching the wall when your fist is already touching it, thats preload :y
