How do you drive these ballless damn things!?

So I just put a pair of new axles & wheel cylinders on my Civic.
Jesus I am out of practice driving this thing! I peeled out of the driveway (It's been sitting in a stream of ATF leaking from my ES's leaky differential axle seals. wtf is it with me and axles all a sudden!?)
Upshifted into 2nd coming up the huge hill I live on. I was too early... Pedal to the floor it was only doing 10mph (It lost about 10mph LoL!) by the top of the hill. Then stalled the son of a bitch pulling off from two stop signs in a row LoL! Ahhhh man was I pissed off. I got the hang of it again tho. No worries. God it's a wonder I could have ever driven it as my first car... I don't even remember ever having problems with it as a teenager. Guess I'm just older, dumber & too use to torquier engines. Now a days. Anyone else had that happen?

Eh. Atleast it only took me about 45min to change both axles, both cylinders, and bleed the brakes.

guess compairing the 20ft lbs of torque at 7000rpm of a honda to 200 something at off idle of a toyota would to that :6

Eh, It's just experiance man. ;) Half the ---- in the book you have to remove, you only have to partially disconnect & get out of the way. Took me longer to change the wheel cylinders than the axles LMAO!
Besides. I'm a professional anyways. I've got the tools to do the job.
Really helps to have air tools, cordless impact driver, impact sockets, high end flexable extensions, and wratcheting wrenches. You can make anybody fast with a cordless impact & a *good* flex extension & wratcheting wrenches that'll hold mroe than a hound's piss worth of torque.

Honestly the worst part was jacking it up for jackstands... The civic sits in the bad end of the driveway where it falls off & I just *had* to try jacking it up on uneven ground first. I knew it wouldn't work, it didn't LoL! I got one side up then went to the opposite side to raise it. The jack-stand went on 2 legs while I was jacking so I just had to go ahead & swap the lexus to the ass end of the driveway.
hahahahahahahaha
Tell yall what tho. Like my civic really is a piece of ---- beaten up, but mechanically OK car... But 40-45mpg kicks the ------- piss out of about 22, or the 17.8 the F150 gets. Jesus, cheap car to drive. I wish there was a way to get some torque into it. I ran afew errands today, still stalled it once getting out into traffic trying to be in too big a hurry.

Yeah it's 100% driver error I admit, but the car could cut me alittle slack. :\ Too bad there isn't just a descent all midrange engine that'd drop in. It wouldn't take the 200ft-lbs off idle like a descent v6. Hell just 50% more than what it makes would be great. Or maybe a bigass heavy flywheel, but I don't wanna know how slow this thing would be with a heavy flywheel! LoL!
I got a 60lb toy truck v6 flywheel laying around somehwere. Wonder if I could cut it up to fit! LoL!

Hey! I gotta question, cause I know nothing on civic's & google couldn't give me an answer. Was checking the thickness of my front rotors & couldn't see a stamping on the rotor for minimum thickness. Anybody know it off-hand? 1988 DX Hatch 1.5L.

To the OP - that's why we turbocharge them. Makes them have a little bit more torque.

------- Dual Point... that bastard child intake manifold has been making honda's piss poor slow, and have no throttle response for nearly 20 years.

Multi-Point convert it. ;)

Re: How do you drive these ballless damn things!?

Snafubmx234 - i know, but I mean torque at takeoff. Unfortunately, unless it was a tiny ass turbo it wouldn't help that, and I'd be afraid of a belt driven blower stalling the car out at idle if active at very low throttle.

This thing is a d15b1 right?

i dont hate. tease, yeah, but it's all in good fun. Wonder if a set of proper long-tube headers would help... Ofcorse... I could always just go see if the ECU will let me get by with turning the idle up a couple hundred rpm LMAO!

Re: How do you drive these ballless damn things!?

they do make engines that drop in that double the tourqe on that engine lol. im pretty sure throwing in just a b18b would tripple the cars performance. and at least double the tourqe. even a better d-series engine would make it a new car. maybe you need to throw in a heavily used clutch while your at it so you dont stall it anymore lol. but i do agree hondas are tourqless. with my unsprung clutch my car wants to stall too

Re: How do you drive these ballless damn things!?

Ah man I don't really care about all that LoL! I have a faster car that i know everything in the world about to tool around on.
The civic is just my backup / economy car / hauler. Always has been. Why what do B swaps get mpg wise? 30?. I like 40 better. :) Just wish it had a hair more torque idling.

it gets so much faster when you swap it :1 I actualy think it gets slower until like 4-5k rpm's.

Try checking your ignition timing. :P

70 horsepower. No wonder LoL!
Glad I'm not the only one that's ever stalled one of these things tho. Sadly... it needs your stereotypical $15 spray paint job. Inside & out. And it's got seat-covers in it cause the seats are shitty.
