How do traction bars work????

Default How do traction bars work????

OK i got wheel hop out the ***, and i know the traction bar is the solution.
Iv seen the build your own thread a few times now, and would like to do such, but i want to understand how they work before i start

First i guess what is causing the wheel hop, and how dose conecting suspension to the front frame stop it.
And all the bars iv seen are adjustable via turning the arm, what keeps the arm from loosing over time, and what is the proper tention suposed to be.

Im sound ------- retarded but i really want to understand the concepts

i know bushing deflection is a cause of hop, but i am unsure of how the traction bar actually helps this

depending on the setup they keep the wheels from being able to come up in the first place to initiate wheel hop. They can either effect the geometry of the suspension(changing the angle of a 4-link setup or changing the way leafs exert resistence to wheel-hop inducing pressure for example) or change the setup entirely(unlikely, mostly geometry change).

Wheel hop: Part 1- as torque is applied to the wheel it loads the suspension (at the same magnitude as the force the tire exerts on the road) which is rubber mounted which causes the suspension to essentially move forward. Part 2 - the wheel slips (now the magnitude of the previously discussed force decreases due to the change from static friction to kinetic friction) and the suspension then sees less load and it essentially moves back towards its original position. Part 3 - now the wheel grips again and repeats Part 1. This movement back and forth of the suspension is due to the sudden change in the loading of the suspension and the components being rubber mounted. The traction bar prevents this movement which then prevents this cycle of grip and no grip which is wheel hop. Wheel hop can be damaging to pretty much all drivetrain components and wears out the rubber suspension bushings quicker.

In reality its a bit more complex.

You could probably eliminate most of not all of your wheel hop with better suspension, tires, and motor mounts. That worked for me.

basically what he's saying is wheel hop is not the up/down motion you would think the word "hop" implies, its the foreward/backward motion. Traction bars prevent any foreward/backward motion.
