How do my numbers look?

So I finally decided to do a compression test and see what I got. The pictures speak for themselves(Projekteg style ;))

Looking good.....

Just to make sure I wasn't seeing ----...

Yeah, that looks to be about 30psi in #2. I'm thinking it's something with the valves in that cylinder. If it's anything serious.......I have some thinking to do. :-\

Dr.Boost 10-10-2004 02:21 PM

Re:How do my numbers look?

Well, I guess I can count the valves out as the suspect. ::)

She perked right up after a spoon of oil. :(

Just give it a quick hone job and some Napa pistons rings...and you're good to go for 100K miles

Re:How do my numbers look?

No sense in beating around the bush. I was kidding myself thinking I was going to run a DOHC. ::) Back to my SOHC roots. 8) Anybody want to buy a *mint* ZC. ;D

If anybody has an A6 intake manifold or *possibly* a complete Z6 head with intake manifold for the right price let me know. :-\

Haha, I love this website. Within 7 hours of posting this I have a new(to me) motor, an intake manifold, and a set of forged SRP pistons and Crower rods(pending until payment clears). It doesn't get much better than that. 8)

Re:How do my numbers look?

i'd rebuild that dohc before going back to a single cam. i might cost even less to rebuild it. plus if you use forged pistons and rods. you'll have a much stronger motor then a stock single cam. even a dohc with stock pistons and stock rods will be stronger than a single cams' internals. oh and i'd spray the block with degreaser and let it get hot while running w/degreaser on so it would clean it. that stuff works good when it's sprayed on a warm engine and then let the engine get hotter while the degreaser is on.

Re:How do my numbers look?

150 psi too low for zc?

Guy-Fast 10-10-2004 10:21 PM

Re:How do my numbers look?

Should be gettin 180-190 on dohc zc that is very good condition. Same goes for most d series motors. 150 is signs of wear/tear on the motor. The importer I go through does not allow d series motors below 160 to be sold

I think I have it covered. I might still be interested in that head/manifold though. I might as well start a new collection of SOHC parts.

The only reason I was even running this motor was because it came with the car. I was planning on being stupid and blowing it up anyways. :-\

We'll have to figure something out with those steelies. However Julio and I decide to do the swap.....
