Default How do i use a timing gun on a honda?

I need to check my timing and set it. I've never used a timing gun before and i borrowed one from a friend. I know the red end goes to positing and the black goes to ground on the batter (self explanitory), i'm guessing the clip thing goes on a spark plug?? does it matter which one? cyl 1?? On my crank pully i have 3 marks and then 1 mark about an inch away from the 3. like this:

I I I I

Which line do i set the timing gun at and how do i go about doing this?? is it supposed to blink or what, i've never used one and need to know detailed instructions on how to do so TIA

k, the 3 marks r the ones u r wanting to use, the single mark out by itself is the TDC or top dead center mark, put the end on the #1 cylinder spark plug wire, loosen the dizzy bolts and point the gun at the crank pulley, on the lower plastic that covers the timing gear and ---- there is a line, about 3 inches long, its the timing line, aim the gun directly at that and either way you turn the dizzy you'll see the marks move, just put the timing pointer on the red mark in between the 2 white ones, and tighten the dizzy back down and whooola. good lucl.

ok so i'm guessing that the timing gun produces two white marks and a red mark inbetween the two? cuz there are no colored marks on my crank pulley stock. also you were talking about the timing mark on the tb cover, is this the mark that i originally lined up the tdc mark on the crank pulley to tia

no the timing gun flashes, everytime the ign fires, just point the light down there and youll see what im talking about, then hold the light on the pointer and more the dizzy back and forth youll see it move back or forth and light the center mark on the pulley up with the timing line on the plastic cover.

BTW, Some Timing lights have Adv. controls.
The proper procedure is correct for using the control **** set to "0", or, if there are no adjustments on the gun.
If your gun has a **** then you would use the TDC mark (this is the mark that is seperate from the other three) on the pulley as a reference.

If you read the book ur supposed to Jump the brown and green wires under the dash on the passenger side to disable the automatic advance or something like that, I usually do but i've checked with it jumped and without it jumped and it didnt really make any difference.
