Default New Guy with Questions.. (w/a video of car)

Ok..

New here. Figured I could post on here my question vs Honda-Tech and get flamed. My curent car right now is a 89 EF. It has the Basic I/H/E on a B16 Swap.. Also has DSM Fuel Pump, Rail, FPR, on stock injectors.

Upgraded Centerforce clutch which I love and rolls on some ---- maxspeed/tokico set up. I also have a Nitrous Express Wet kit. Jetted on a 75hp Right now and car ran a 12.92 @108.9mph..

I want to basically do a cheap garage turbo kit and have some questions.

I know these have asked a million times probably but this also serves as a introuduction.

Which OEM turbo will get me the results I am looking for. I want to run like times but with the hope of a Tad Faster. I want around 200whp with this setup and the Car will have a set of new JE's in it also when times comes to be ready to go. (Currently have a ring down (thinkin so) on my stock block and figured if any time to upgrade now would be the time).

The Fuel Should be fine except with the addition of the Injectors which will be 450's. I will be running a Megasquirt EMS for the car which will give us more than enough options to tune.

But the main question is what Turbo would you guys Suggest. I know the 14B is a likely canidate but heard it lacks power in the Upper RPMS's. Also whats a decent Cast Log Manifold and Intercooler. (Been looking at Johnny RaceCar)

But these are some of my questions. Please don't slaughter this noob just a dude looking for some answers enjoying the same sport as yall.

Oh and heres the Video of the Hatch. (The 16.1 is the first time ever at the track on a Auto ECU) It went a 15.5 later on but the dude making the video thought it was cute to put that run in.

14b is not gonna be an optimal turbo for a B16. Look for a T3 60/63, I think they come off of SVO mustangs and Merkur X4ti's or some crap like that. A 48/60 would also work, I think that comes off of a supercoupe thunderbird from the mid 80's.

As far as a manifold goes, when it comes to B-Series a cast manifold is going to cost you more than a cheap tubular log manifold. Check the classifieds here or get ahold of a place like www.lsdmotorsports.com to make you one. Typical running price for a stainless steel log manifold for a B series is around $225 or so. LSD motorsports also sells intercoolers, as does custom coach and JRC, again - check the classifieds.

And for fuel management you should look into BRE rather than megasquirt unless you really have your heart on megasquirt. However BRE would be much easier to set up assuming you already have a PR3 or PW0. For more information on BRE go to www.pgmfi.org .

With good tuning and a decent setup you should be able to get a lot more than 200whp from a B16 - especially with forged pistons.

damn, a 75shot got u in the 12's lol. never knew such a small shot could do so much. turbo should get u a bit faster if tuned right but 12's non-turbo is awesome. all new guys should be like you. a good turbo to think about is a t-bird T3 or a good priced t3/t4...14b, T25 are all a tad too small

I read about those Turbocoupes and SVO's but they seem not to easy to find locally. At least I am on the right track not to use the 14B.. That turbo keeps getting shoved in my face to use and everyone I talk to says not too.

But I am pretty hungup on the MS just because one of the guys here tunes a ---- ton of them and has a very strong track records. (He Tunes the Blue pick up that won Drag Week aka Parish) So the guys knows what he is doing with them and is a friend of mine that has offered to help if I did the MS.

But I know the 200whp should be a easy to goal to achieve but its always nice to set the goals low so when you do more its always a good feeling.

On a 55hp shot I went from a 15.3 to a 13.6.

Then found out my Cams in the car were Auto Cams we swapped them out with a set from a Xsi Head along with upgraded to the 75hp and got a 12.92 and a 14.6 all motor on slicks.

A 14b is a lame turbo, your best bet is to get a larger turbo. Spooling the big turbos = teh fun. Plus you're not going to have to upgrade your turbo later. thats a kickass video good work.

200 horse aint ---- on a turbo B16

you can try one of those smaller holset turbos, you might have to spend the $ on a rebuilt turbo from someone so you can get a good sized turbo for that motor, if you cant find a 60/63 T3
.

The Holset was another one I was looking into since I am in the Midwest the Cummins seem to be plenty full around here. None of these turbos are internally gated are they?.
