Horsepower For 12's?
Can anyone give me a rough estimate of how much HP it would take to get a Civic HB into the 12's?

Re:Horsepower For 12's?
stripped ... 350hp will get you low 12's if driven properly..
300 prolly like mids to high 12's |
Re:Horsepower For 12's?
there is a a 88-91 civic HB in the issue of sport compact car last month with 151 horsepower running 12's

Re:Horsepower For 12's?
Had to be some nitrous in there somewhere. I'm in the 14's now with 180 hp.

Re:Horsepower For 12's?
well..according to the artical..it was all motor.. with a b20 block and b16a head...i just read it..they printed he ran like a 12.9 with 151 horsepower..read the artical.

Re:Horsepower For 12's?
12.9 ok.... uhm that thing musta had a PRO driver. holy christ
o and also the b20 has a hell of a lot more tork, mabey that helped it out. |
Re:Horsepower For 12's?
seriously guys, how hard is it to launch at 5k rpms with slicks and speed shift. seriously! not very hard!
|
Re:Horsepower For 12's?
Who knows, the car might not of even been street legal.. so many factors.. Weight/traction/setup etc..
---- Bisimoto is like running 300hp and hitting 10's.. to much shiet.. |
Re:Horsepower For 12's?
Maybe the final gear drive was changed.
|
Re:Horsepower For 12's?
PSH, I'm pretty darn sure that if you could get 250hp (at the wheels) in a rex around 2000lbs, it would be a high 12's car or better. Jeff's ls/vtec turbo ran 13.3 and it was probably in that HP area.. and they didn't have good traction.
|
Re:Horsepower For 12's?
You really cant take a hp number and make a good guesstimate about times...Its all about driving and weight..You can have a 250hp 187tq crx with good driving skills and hit 11's.....
To the question....Id say maybe 230hp with good weight and driving skills could get you mid to low 12's..All depends on a turbo and how good it spools...Or how fast u hit that nos button ::) |
Re:Horsepower For 12's?
I read that article also. it was an article that had a drag 4g and 5g and a auto-x 4g and 5g. The car in question was an Orange 4g 88 DX civic hb. completely stripped interior, even some of the metal inside that was unusable was cut out and it had a b20 VTEC mated to a b16 tranny with slicks. no frickin wonder it ran 12's, 150+tq and 1500lbs!!
|
Re:Horsepower For 12's?
traction is also very vital, slicks can greatly improve 60 foot times/1/4 - and a LSD will greatly improve your overall time to a significant degree!
|
Re:Horsepower For 12's?
Erick Aguilar of Erick's racing is making about 280 horse and on the verge of 9's, it's all a factor of driving, and suspension/traction tuning.

Re:Horsepower For 12's?
all motor B20 block with B16a head would make well over 151 hp...are u sure it wasn't a typo?
maybe the authors were drinkin spikin their drinks with 151. |
Re:Horsepower For 12's?
its all in the driver man... i seen people with like 350+ only hitting high 12's on slicks. i hit 11.8 with 302hp and im sure i could do better just didnt quite get a chance but soon i will get another... i could get mid to low 11's with 300 i bet

Re:Horsepower For 12's?
its a bone stock bottom end with a ported head. the car doesnt even have stock glass in it. its light as hell, and all about power to weight, not overall power.

Re:Horsepower For 12's?
I am sure you have all seen this, and you prolly think it is stupid but i think it cool.
http://car.race-cars.net/calculators/et_calculator.html comparing this calculator to real times it seems to always display to fast of times. i think this calculator assumes you get perfect launch and you have perfect traction. Thi thing said my frinds car would do a little under 13 flat and his does 13.5 so not too far off. |
Re:Horsepower For 12's?
Yeah, my friend ran a 13.7 with 171 hp at the wheels in a 91 hat on street tires. D Series has impressed me many times...

Re:Horsepower For 12's?
