hoping to get homemadetubo.com into GRM
I dont know if any of you read Grassroot Motorsports magazine but for the past few years they have had a competition called the $(year) challenge. now they are working on the $2005 challenge.
Its basic a concept really...$2005 to build a car that will preform in drag racing and autocross and be judged on reliabilty, and looks. You have to provide full detail of what you buy/sell/trade, who does your work, how you did ----, and you cant spend anymore than $2005. (the contest is March 31-April 2, 2005)You can spend more than $2005, but at the day of the contest, you cant spend any more than $2005 on the project. (say I buy a car for $3000, but sell $995 worth of ---- off the car, i have met my limit...) So if I can get funds around by then...im gonna do this ----. Myself and a buddy of mine, Tommy (tommy toes on here, who never posts) and maybe projekteg...will be th team and see what we can do. Of coarse a turbo charged civic/CRX will probably be the plan, but options are open. I know of a $500 merkur in a junkyard that runs...maybe I might pick that up...but I need opionions. RX-7, maybe a SVO mustang, merkur, VW, options are open. If I can get a Si CRX like projekteg is working on, i might do something around those lines...options are open. I really wouldnt care if its a complete rust bucket, interior is all trashed...etc. etc. im gonna race it and probably blow it up doing it. Im gonna put homemadeturbo.com down the side of the car, to represent. 8) hit me up with ideas. any parts "donated" must be figured into the cost as a "fair market value" of the price of the part. |
Re:hoping to get homemadetubo.com into GRM
Id rock a shitbox hf, junkyard dseries, give it a mild rebuild and then boost the ---- out of it and not give a ---- cause it dosn't need to run for all that long.

Re:hoping to get homemadetubo.com into GRM
viva la junkyard racers ;D

Re:hoping to get homemadetubo.com into GRM
I think that is a sweet deal, and hey, you don't HAVE to win, I think it will be a blast just building/racing it.
And as far as fair-market value, real world value, or HMT value, hahaha -PHiZ |
Re:hoping to get homemadetubo.com into GRM
damn I wanna do that :-\ Sounds like fun.
Oh and for donated parts, it's not donated if you pay a dollar ;) And for high dollar items, since the guy sold you the part at half price, you gave him a 'tip' for the other half ;) |
Re:hoping to get homemadetubo.com into GRM
there are many many ways around the rules such as this one:
10) Interiors may be gutted, although the basic dashboard or dashpad must remain. If the original dashboard pad has since rotted or deteriorated away, it may be replaced with a full width piece of aluminum ================================ who detirmins if a dash is "rotted or deteriorated away" here are the rules. http://www.grmotorsports.com/2005rules.html on the budget thing...its gonna be a good time, and "all items must be fair market value, so i cant buy an engine for $1, when i turn in my sheets, they will say, no. that was at least $250- im not wantin to ---- myself on this ----... its gonna be fun. |
Re:hoping to get homemadetubo.com into GRM
well yeah you won't put an engine in for a dollar, but you know a hundre bucks for a single cam isn't oo suspicious being that it's a honda. And just have them write a reciept for a hundred, even if you paid more. It's a budget project, your expences should be to a minimum ;)

Re:hoping to get homemadetubo.com into GRM
I say '89 hf w/a B18, a bunch of boost, and some springs, sway bars, and brake lines. Then if you're good with FG or ABS plastic or some ----, make some light weight aerodynamics, and body parts. I think solid motor mounts would be nice too. And remember that lightness is your friend. ;D There was a guy from redpepperracing that built a similar setup and ran somewhere in the 11s. And I think he only used like three non OEM parts, and it cost him like $1000.
|
Re:hoping to get homemadetubo.com into GRM
^ Why 89 HF? 88's are the lightest.
Also Frank, after I'm done stripping most of the parts off my CRX, I'd sell you the shell for dirt cheap, like $70. If you're interested hit me up ;) |
Re:hoping to get homemadetubo.com into GRM
I am really open to what kind of car im gonna use. I have found a fre RX7's really cheap, around $1100 cheap, with suspension set-ups, some engine work, and a roll cage.
a turbo or a 4bbl carb set-up isnt to far out of proportion. I also know where a 87 integra Brown top, ZC is for a few hundred dollars in a junkyard, with good compression test results, i might pick that up... I know where a merkur is, the 2.3 ltr, turbo engine that is bullet proof. Turn the boost up, spray it, and dump the 300lb seats that are in the car, and i think it would have some potential. humm... |
Re:hoping to get homemadetubo.com into GRM
Also, there is an 89 HF down the road from my buddy for sale, they'd probably take $100 for it. Needs some work, but if you sold the engine/interior you'd more than make your money back haha. (yes, im trying to buy it buy my parents arent liking the idea too much) :-\

Re:hoping to get homemadetubo.com into GRM
when you get ready for the seat, let me know, i can probably get you a new corbeau for super cheap. like jobber cost. i cant always get that cost but for something like this i may be able to.

Re:hoping to get homemadetubo.com into GRM
My friend has a 93 civic ex with front-end damage and a cracked head....for $50. but the block is good still.
|
Re:hoping to get homemadetubo.com into GRM
lol
$2005 bucks? easy... if it is drag only hook up with beau and fill your block. you can go d series and run the vitara pistons w/ ls rods and if you can tune, you can be around 250-275whp with like a $200 internal build... that is going completely flat rate though... |
Re:hoping to get homemadetubo.com into GRM
Everyone says the '88s hubs, or some ----, need to be changed for a later model in order to fit the b series axles. Or at least that's what I've heard so far. If not then get a '88.

Re:hoping to get homemadetubo.com into GRM
Last year the drag race was won by an all motor 4 door nova, that ran 10s. But I think a 240z took top honors. ---- the FMU. Sell the EFI stuff and go with a carb.
