HONDA THE BEST JAP MAKE??

anyone know how honda mark up against toyota, susuki, nissan etc for ease of tuning, maintenance relibility, i was gonna buy a supra or MR2 roadster but dont wanna end up being annoyed with my purchase and going back to honda. I wish they'd make a new CRX... ::)

i have a 1400 civic which i boguht in 99 and everyday i spank the living crap out of it and it keeps coming back for more never had any problems and occasionaly missed the service date by 2k miles or so... honda have got my vote thats for sure but maybe im being biast i dont wanna end up narrow minded for the rest of my life, spose the other way is to book test drives at the other garages. I was looking at a motor of the year award for reliability and i think toyota were first, dunno bout second but third was honda.... i think that award was 1999 also. ;D

To answer your original answer, Honda cars have the most aftermarket support (Civic) so it would be the easiest to tune/mod/maintain with. But the "other" Japanese manufacturers usually have better performance to start off... Depends on if you want a rocket out of the box or build/tune your own rocket.

Well in Japan the aftermarket support for Nissan is really big. A frien of mine went there and said that he saw more fast nissan's than honda's

Yes, in Japan there's big support for nissans, but i don't think he's talking about over there, but here in the states, then Honda for aftermarket support and ease of tuning. Reliability I would say Toyota and Honda come first. I like nissan but not that much aftermarket support is available, and what they have is a lot more expensive than honda parts.

Hondas have the most after market support in north america. The only reason nissan is like it is in Japan is because of the Skyline GT-R.

Re:HONDA THE BEST JAP MAKE??

in england there is hardly any aftermarket support for jap cars :'( alot of shops and tuning places do fords or renaults... I have to get alot of my stuff imported via good old ebay, obviously parts such as exhausts and air filters are slightly easier to get. but then we do get 95 & 98 RON gas. Do yuo guys get restricted ECU's? or is that japan? :P

Actually in Japan the reason Nismo is on top is because of car's like the 180sx, and the S13, S14, and S15's. OF course the Skyline is huge, but because it is a higher end car not everybody over there can afford them, so they relate to the less expensive car's, also Toyota is huge because of all of their old skoo car's, there is also ton's of new skool, but it's amazing the old skool aftermarket over there. And Honda is just Honda, it's the same everywhere, there's ton's of Honda's.

Nissan looks to be a total bitch to work on... VG30DEs scare the ---- out of me...

Suzuki is cool. I've got a Samurai out in my bush that me and my dad pulled the motor from... it was super easy to work on, an ingenius design, really. They also have a cool little pocket-rocket, the Swift GT or GTi... 1.3L DOHC fully balanced and forged everything from the factory... I just wish they sold the AWD cultus here... Man, if I could put AWD on a Swift GTi with USDM parts, I would forget all about Honda!

Re:HONDA THE BEST JAP MAKE??

You think so???
Well a friend of mine has a Swift GTi, it's a good car don't get me wrong....a lot of power for a 1.3 liter it's quick and drives really nice. but the 2nd gear is like ---- the RPM dies when you shift to 2nd..ok there is a replacement performance 2nd gear from suzisport, but still, I bitch slepped his gti evertime we raced. And i got a good ol' crx ;D.
Oh well here in europe almost all crx's have the D16a8 or d16a9 or the B16a1 but in the states the swift gti would own a lot of stock crx's.
But I like the completely forged bottom end though.

Re:HONDA THE BEST JAP MAKE??

yeah, they're pretty slow by North American standards, too...

but hey, everything's got potential. *shrug*

Re:HONDA THE BEST JAP MAKE??

Yeah they got great potential though and fun to drive, just like the CRX.
There heads or top notch quality and I luv the forged bottom end too. If it were a 1.6 then it would have been a beast.
