HomeMade VteC ControlleR

I started this project 2 days ago and now I'm done. I ran into some trouble like when I hit Vtec the stupid PCM threw a DTC but I fixed that easily. What a difference it makes having Vtec kick in at 4500rpm. Just wanted to post this subject up and tell everybody why spend 100+ for a field or apexi vafc when you can make your own for less than $10. I agree the Field and Apexi controllers look much better but does the same thing as my homemade one.

FYi, its proven that when vtec is set lower than 5000 you will have less useable HP in that range. We did several dyno setups NA and FI, each time we lowered it, there would be a huge dip in the graph. My vtec is set at 5800, I even had it set at 6000 on my crvtec. The only time it really didnt matter was when we were using it on a SOHC vtec, we had it set at 3000rpms, 4500 rpms and 5500 rpms, and the thing really didnt make to much of a difference.

So be advised.. just because you "hear" it sooner, and you think its actually faster, its probably not.

Since the Vtec on Z6's is so weak anyway, if Vtec was disabled, how much difference would that even make?

teh Z6 needs VTEC at the top end to make it strong, i have noticed a huge diffrence in vtec when i dident have it and now that i do have it. and Jeff is right, mine is set at 5500 RPM

Of course jff is right, if you look at it from an mechanical standpoint.. Vtec is mostly about increased breathing via ur camshafts. Vtec Cams are set for top end, If you choose to activate vtec sooner on the b series engines ur most likely gonna lose alot more then u will gain. There is no need to allow extra air flow and long valve openings at low rpm because there is already sufficient flow without vtec. Now Vtec has kicked in and u cant get the right amount of air you need because of the cam situation.
