homemade solid mounts?

i was thinking about the article where the devcon liquid aluminum was used to fill the block, and wondering to myself, why couldn't you use that to make some homemade solid mounts? anybody see a reason this wouldn't work?

SOLID being the key word. i have homemade poly mounts but i think solid would do better for less flexing, and i'm on a budget so hasport/equivalent mounts are out of the question.

well yea i dont see why not.

get a bucket, throw in a layer of salt, put the mount in it, put salt/sand around the mount, fill the mount with devcon. i dont see why not

just wondering if the vibration would cause it to crack...

solid mounts are horrible idea ... do to vibration .. horrible horrible wheel hop and more than likely breaking axles on a daily biasis :y

i would worry about that too, but whats the purpose of block guards- to keep the sleeves stable at 7000 rpm with 15psi being crammed into them :S

it'd be a good test

why not just put some cardboard around it or some ----...the salt thing is for blocks so you can have the devcon sit up off the bottom

well cuz if you were worried about appearence you could just wash the salt off. right? isn't the salt in blocks so it can be flushed out?

Re: homemade solid mounts?

can you just fill your mounts with just the polyurathane sealant. or is it not as stable without the polyurthane mount inserts too? because i was just planning on filling up my mounts with a type of polyurthane or what this guy is thinkin devacon

solid mounts are homo, go poly.

tractiondeprived 06-18-2006 09:03 PM

Re: homemade solid mounts?

appearance means ---- to me, yea i was thinking using something like devcon, and i already have poly mounts but i'm looking for something a lil stiffer... they still flex a lil more than i'd like

Loserkidwac 06-18-2006 09:52 PM

Re: homemade solid mounts?

I don't know I have Arizona Racing poly mounts and they are stiff everything in the car rattles i couldn't image solid mountss, you need a little flex or you are going to have some problems as someone stated before

Saleslmonkey you don't need the insert to fill the mount just put some duct tape on one side fill thmount with the widow weld or whaever you are using and then push it down with a piec of cardboard and let it dry

word, i think gator was blaming some solid metal suspension bushings for the reason he broke 2 or 3 sets of axles.

if poly isn't stiff enough for you, you must not have very good mounts.

Loserkidwac 06-18-2006 09:59 PM

Re: homemade solid mounts?

yea my motor dosen't flex one bit when reving it unlike my old D series which would go front to back in the engine bay :P

if you make stright solid mounts, they're gonna crack over time... they use poly for a reason

krustindumm 06-19-2006 12:36 AM

Re: homemade solid mounts?

now way would you get the bolts in, you need a little flex.

another blockguards suck guy. Ask hotrex how far the alternative will get you.

Oh, and try 20psi and 8000rpm. I guess i bought a jdm one and had it professionally installed with my jdm rubber mallet

was that sarcasm? no really.. i re-read that like 3 times. i wasn't bashing block guards, my LS/vtak im slowly putting together is waiting for some devcon. i was saying that devcon is probably somewhat strong since it's able to hold sleeves together

sohcpwr 06-19-2006 11:42 PM

Re: homemade solid mounts?

and by the "alternative" i mean devcon. We all know thats what fucked his sleeves. But go on ahead and do as you please :l

About as hard as you should need.

Stock is about 32-34A this is 94A so 3x stiffer if not more because after about 2year the stock slowly become 25A or so.

A friend of mine welded the motormounts in his car, it vibrated....

Re: homemade solid mounts?

i went to home depot and got the polyurethane adhesive in the tube, not the 3M window weld. and filled my front tourqe mounts with it and it was pretty stiff. everything vibrated for a few weeks then it worked itself in and everything was better and alot less vibrations.

Ya that stuff is about 60-63A.

i had the same stuff it works pretty good, looks and smelles like chocolate too lol
but it does take a good while to dry up, i fill up mine and it took almost two week before i finally dried completely.

see my car domain site if you want to see mine. zero engine flex! just do the front and rears and leave sides or uppers stock it will not vibrate all crazy like so many people seem to believe.

just use liquid metal. mines still holding up after 6months

Re: homemade solid mounts?

i have some of my motor mounts solid. It vibrates the dash but makes the engine and shifting rock solid.
