Homemade Dyno Graphs/Pressure Plots/02 Logs

Hey guys, now that I have finally got my ass in gear and put the Holset HE351CW on my built LS VTEC, I was able to spend a night tuning my car! Honestly, I think the HP numbers are a little high, however I really wanted to plot boost vs. RPM and 02 vs. RPM so see how good my tune was. Here are some graphs I created. I spent a few hours once I got home to actually go over the data and make some tables. This tune was done on 91 pump gas, 15psi, RC 550's. Im glad this turbo spools so fast! All my friends thought I was crazy bolting this up to my 1.8L. But as you can see it spools damn fast!

I tuned my car with Crome & Freelog - highly recommended!

It's very similar to the program I use for tuning purposes for evo's and wrx's...datalog lab. Basically it takes variables from the car and translates them into hp/tq numbers, which is basically what he did. Datalog lab that I use can be off if vehicle weight is entered wrong and tire size and air pressure is off, but quite a few people have tested it to be semi-accurate to +/- 5% when all the variables are correct. But more importantly it gives the tuner a baseline to work from to determine which parts and tune areas will actually produce power. It may not be accurate, but from a tuner's standpoint it's a lifesaver if you don't have a dyno readily available.

Well I thought it was kinda cool... It's not like I pulled these numbers out of my ass. I based all the calculations off my logs taking into account vehicle mass w/driver. I already said I think these numbers could be high. I just wanted to post what can be done using free software. Some might also find the pressure plot useful as the Holsets are becoming more popular. If you don't, good bye. The idea was to see how the Holset actually spools on a 1.8L Honda.

See how a Holset spools on a Honda motor?

How 1999. ::)

Oh, yah. Holsets are not getting more popular, and in the import scene they are becoming less popular. Holsets are all large chassis packaging nightmares.

Well I'm happy with mine and I would highly recommend it to anyone else. Spool time is quicker with this unit than both t3/t4 60 trim and the t3/t4 46 trim. I have owned about 6 different Garrett turbos in the last 3 years, so I can comment on their characteristics. I would never go back to any Garrett journal bearing turbo. I have never had experience with the ball bearings... For the price Holsets are worth, you can't go wrong especially for a lot of DIY'ers like myself. After all, this is "homemadeturbo". As for packaging nightmares, yeah the compressor housing is a bit bigger, but it wasn't that hard to bolt on. Mind you, I have a lot of space to work with. It would all depend on the design of the manifold one is using.

15psi at 4800 rpm is pretty good in my opinion. You must think otherwise.
