Homemade Dyno (All in Theory)
Okay this is all based in theory so give me a break for not having all the details...or any of them thought out. i just thought of this about 5 minutes ago.
Basically you put a car up in the air via some sort of support system. You move a large cylinder that is quite massy(simulating a load). On this cylinder there are placed a large number of sensors that interact with a lazer. As the lazer hits the sensor it would be able to mark the time verses the distance between the last sensor giving you a velocity...basically the closer together they are the more exact the instantaneous velocity is. I dont exactly know how one would compare it to rpms...didnt really think of that yet.
Basically the main flaw is, you would need to find a cylinder that had a very similar load to a very smooth road(friction). I know this seems like a hack idea, but it was my hack idea of the week :P

Wow. Just take the ****** to the dyno. :P That seems like soooo much work and R&D for something so small. I guess this is Homemadeturbo and if you can find a way to do it cheaper more power to ya.

Re:Homemade Dyno (All in Theory)
i hate you guys
No seriously, it was just a thought...the massy cylinder i would imagine would be the most expensive part of the whole ordeal. I bet a guy like J. Davis or some guy that is electrically inclined could figure it out. basically the way i was thinking of doing it was the laser hits a sensor it starts a timer...then hits the next...logs that time and resets the timer and so on...you could actually put this in like a wood frame reinforced by steel....i was just thinking out loud i guess...

umm for all the time and $ to make this a reality... damn just get a G-TECH... Its not ultra accurate but itll show when you get a performance gain, like before and after comparison... and you can get one for less than $50.
