Home Made (DIY) Camber Correction Kit Idea.
Well today upon inspection of my car, I noticed that my tires are horrible on the inner wall, I got them when I got the car which wasnt even a year ago, so I came up with the Idea that if I was to take off the upper control arm on the shock tower, and grind the metal forward about an inch and then weld 2 washers one on the top and one on the bottom, so 4 per shock tower, it would bring the whole upper control arm forward by about an inch, and thats about all it takes to straighten the camber out. let me know what you guys think, basically the stock location where the holes used to be would be welded shut and the steel washer would be welded to the body to handle the stress.

Yes it would work if I understand you correctly but REALLY GHETTO. The other problem I see is that the thickness there is like 3/4". Might be hard to get it correct.
Just buy a 35 dollar ebay kit. Not much to spend and it works well and based on a Ingalls kit |

For the little bit of money it costs for a camber kit, i'd rather just pick one up off ebay instead of fooling with suspension.

Sorry guys, I cant find this magical front 35 dollar camber kit ::)
I found this though http://www.wickedtuning.com/images/WK9600HC.jpg and it costs 119$ us, and if you were to ever get a bad baljoint you'd have to spend that money again. My method allows you to use OEM control arms without all the BS I agree the rear camber kits are cheap, but the front are not. |

Ooooohhh..I have that style camber kit in my EK civic. Had to change the whole upper control arm to Ingalls. What Civic are you putting it on?

Your username says 4th gen, and your sig says 5th gen.. not sure what you drive, but both generations use the $39 ebay camber kits.
92-95 civic: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW 88-91 civic: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW Your idea would work, but for $39 it might be easier to go ebay. :-\ Stan |

Re: Home Made (DIY) Camber Correction Kit Idea.
They bolt to the strut tower and the upper control arm bolts onto them. They slide back and forth so you can adjust your camber.

Ha, those are the ones we bought for my buddies car, We did get rapped on Shipping, it was like 100 dollars for the front only. I paided 95 for a complete front and rear kit, FULLY adjustable about 6 months back.
Yes your way is cheaper, but that is something I would even want to ---- with. I installed my rear no problem, but with the front, with having two a-arm mounting point, ALOT of suspension geometry can change, and by using your method there is no turning back!!! BETTER GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!!!!!! |
Re: Home Made (DIY) Camber Correction Kit Idea.
hahaha, nukka what.
I have spent a couple hours trying to figure out a way to make either a adjustable upper balljoint, or a ball joint that is simply farther out. now, the problem with using a stock balljoint A arm, is that the ball joint is not at the farthers edge of the arm, so if you move it out more, the a arm will bottom out on the inner fender. There simply is not enough clearence. For example, stock 92-95 civic a arms will bolt up to 4th gen civics with some part swapping, they move the upper balljoint out half an inch or so, and move it back another half inch or so(so it changes the caster aswell sorta), the problem is, it bottoms out on the inner fender well and is completely useless. Now this only applies to extensively lowered cars like mine, you don't have to move the ball joint out that far to get a less drastic camber angle Unless of course you cut out the inner fender well. (8)) but then you are getting into full blown modifications and you might aswell go the full meal deal customizing everything. |

I'll go with the ebay method if I get them cheap enough.
