HMT's Latest Project... Longterm ;)

Well, my brother has recently purchesed a VW Vanagon Syncro and the stock output is very weak, and headgaskets are very common to leak on them. So, with a little research my brother has found alot of people are doing Normal Subaru 4cyl/6cyl swaps.

And now heres the plan..

96 Impreza WRX Turbo EJ20 in the vanagon! oh ya.. its going to be a project. fully documented of course. I'll be posting some more pics soon once we get things going ;)

A jap engine in a german van?!?!?! :o Weird ----, I know you can put any engine in any car with enough work but I never would have thought of that one. Good luck and keep us updated, I can't wait to see this. This is even worse than the guy I know with the RX7 TT motor in a MGB.

Re:HMT's Latest Project... Longterm ;)

I know a guys who drives a vanagon with a Subie 2.5 and another guy with the real badass- a westfalia Diesel swapped out for 1.8 8v with Weber and header. The Diesel ones had an inline four that is tilted VERY far toward the driver's side which bolts up the same as a 1.8 8v so in stead of a waterboxer they have a 1.8 that can ------' powerbrake up a storm.

Here's a picture of the van:
http://naboo.homemadeturbo.com/wrx/westy1.jpg
It's a full camper! With stove, fridge, sink, and sleeps four. Yes it's 4 wheel drive, although that's not a very common option.

Currently the van has a 90hp waterboxer. It's going to be replaced with a 95' WRX STi waterboxer that puts out 271hp stock (JDM).

After the engine swap is complete, oversized 4 wheel disc brakes and alloy wheels come next.....

Why are we all here? we all want to make our rides faster and learn about things on the way. The Westy is in deep need of some HP. I think the swap is going to go well, especially since we have the front clip. The Van is a Syncro, meaning AWD. The goal is to have a "Relible, stock like, engine that can lay down some power"

Re:HMT's Latest Project... Longterm ;)

With all that weight that it's carrying around 90 hp wouldn't cut it though.
A 271 hp engine would let it go up the mountain roads... ;D
