I did a bit of psych study at USC Medical a few years back while getting my PhD. Bet you didn't know that about me ;)

Patholigical lying is usually associated with a select few psychiatric diagnoses, which normally have their onset during adolescence. Namely, these are Conduct Disorder and Antisocial Personality Disorder.

In conduct disorder, it is common to see lying, conning people and other forms of deceit. In Antisocial Personality Disorder, there is a pervasive pattern of disregard or the rights of others, and with this, the person with this disorder will often lie to get what they wish – usually money, sex or power.

Your friend should seek psychological help and that is my professional medical opinion.

but how can i tell her that her lying is a problem?? she already is on meds for bi-polar and something else. she might try to kill me, her mood swings are outrageous.

When you both are in a social setting and she is telling a lie, call her out on it. After enough public humiliation maybe she'll straighten up. Either that or DHITB

I knew a kid in high school who was the same way, doesn't matter what we're talking about, he lies continuously. Everyone knows he's lying, and he knows we know. Yet he still does it.

It has to be a disorder of some kind.

It got pretty old after awhile.
